I’ll get big stick for this ‘whitabootery’ I know but ADHD and Autism waiting list for ‘kids’ is 30% longer, and for adults THREE times as long, in England

Professor John Robertson OBA

It’s been suggested that I can be a bit ‘neurodiverse’ myself, lacking filters, at times when I compare sensitive issues in Scotland and England but, if I am, at least I’m not as bad as the creeps who put together front pages like that above with a greeting wean and a sickeningly unconvincingly compassionate, Labour MSP.

28 000, eh? It’s 400 000 in England1, 30% longer.

If you’re interested, for adults, 23 000 in Scotland and an estimated 600 000 in England2, 3, nearly three times as long.

  1. Labour always exploiting wee kids in Scotland for their own political agenda..disgraceful.
It’s really not easy to diagnose autism and ADHD, it’s complex and takes time to assess and go through the system. The main issue is educational, teachers need to be trained properly in how to deal with children with SEN etc.
Not all kids suspected of having autism will show as being on the spectrum when they are tested.

Not sure about now but years ago when Labour were in power at Holyrood, schools were very very reluctant to advise health service to even start to assess kids because there was ‘no money’ (!) for special educational needs for those diagnosed, which was and no doubt is a statutory requirement, ie an education that meets a childs age, aptitude and ability. That’s not what schools are about, and never were about though, ie they are or were, a one size fits all experience.

Oh and I was watching this recently. Hope OK to include but it’s a subject close to my heart.

One single mother in the comments is facing prosecution because her child cannot cope with school so has low attendance I hear that is happening a lot in England, parents being prosecuted, possibly facing big fines or jail.

    1. What is wrong with “whitaboutary”? The yoon parties do it all the time! All you’re doing is telling the truth with sourced FACTS! I think we, especially at FMQ, should do more whitaboutary!!

      Once again, many thanks!

  2. The Scottish Gov is funding nurture nature practitioners in schools. Putting counsellors in school. Children are being diagnosed routinely. Adults too. Children can be diagnosed. The parents realise they might need to be diagnosed as well. It makes a big difference in people’s live, Especially through school. Totally different now.

  3. Whitabootery? That’s like a made-up word…eh? It’s ‘whit‘ and ‘aboot‘ and then someone stuck ‘ery‘ on the end! According to the Oxford Dictionary, ‘whitabootery’ has gained an exponential rise in use since first acknowledged in the 1970s. The dictionary describes the meaning as:

‘”‘the practice of answering a criticism or difficult question by making a similar criticism or asking a different but related question, typically starting with the words “What about?”‘ – https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/whataboutery

So, initially the word was used as a means of diversion. Okay…But the exponential use in recent times has seen the meaning hi-jacked. Nowadays the word is used against ANY counter argument on the topic.

Isn’t “whitabootery” just comparisons? Isn’t that just what scientific process is? And aren’t comparisons just a part of normal human behave-ural-ness-ology? ( Create a new word every day!)

Whitabootery is a word used by people who have had their thought process hi-jacked. It’s a political nonsense.

    I have spoken!
