In the Telegraph, last Monday:
SNP council tax raid to hammer middle class – Families living in larger homes could see their annual bills rise from £3,780 to £6,515 under plans
and:

Further down the page they had:

Note that these ‘middle class’ families live in only 0.6% or fewer of the homes in Scotland. The middle class shrinks to only a tiny group at the top end?
In England, bands G and H currently pay on average £3 800 and £4 560, well above that in Scotland.
They didn’t of course have this:

People have to pay their share. Local government is funded by central Gov. Income tax a progressive tax. People could move to smaller accommodation..

Many older people who bought houses decades ago have seen their house appreciate in value, but their income decline because they are pensioners. A case of “asset rich cash poor”
This would be a financial disaster of epic proportions for many of these house owners.
If SNP go through with this they will lose a large amount of support!

Many younger people with families are struggling to get on housing ladder or are living in homes which are too small for family size.
If an older person is living in a large house with lower income they will be struggling to heat and upkeep house. I don’t mean to sound harsh but maybe it is time for the older person to downsize and realise their assets. Many older people downsize when their family leaves home or unfortunately a partner dies.

Local authorities set the tax rate, yet ” SNP council tax raid to hammer middle class ” is Simon Johnson’s choice of headline ? https://archive.ph/xDKsB – Or was that Craig Hoy’s preference ?
So Hoy’s pitch to the electorate for Holyrood 26, is they should should be concerned over local tax changes being discussed for implementation a decade hence, as ” That appears to be the nationalists’ only answer to try and fill the black hole they are responsible for creating in Scotland’s finances ” now ? 🤣
