Road fatalities trend is relatively flat in last ten years but the level was nearly 70% higher under last Labour government

Yesterday, STV had:

Surge in number of people killed in crashes on Scotland’s roads Statistics for 2024 show 161 people were killed in reported road collisions in Scotland.

They did not have the above graph revealing:

  1. A one year increase in a falling ten-year period with only yearly fluctuations is neither a surge nor even much of a trend except down.
  2. From 2007, when the SNP first came to power, road deaths are now at a level 67.7% lower than under that last Labour administration.

In 2007, as the the SNP began 18 years of government in Scotland, there were 270 road death, 67.7% more than in 2024 s: https://www.transport.gov.scot/publication/reported-road-casualties-2007/

  1. As far as hacks are concerned any rise, no matter how small is a ‘surge’ or ‘soaring’ and fall is a ‘plummet’ or ‘fallen off a precipice’.

  2. Good news is bad news for the BritNat media when it involves Scotland. SNP need to make sure people know about Labours’ legacy in Scotland in so many areas of policy, they scammed Scotland and especially during their ten years tenure at Holyrood, what a damn disgrace they did nothing good for Scotland whatsoever. A list of Labour’s deliberate failures at Holyrood would be useful, put through every door in Scotland.
