As Colin Smyth, Labour MSP comes to court should Anas Sarwar be asked what he thinks of having now at least six known child sex offenders in his ranks?

Professor John Robertson OBA

As he is filmed entering court, there’s not a word on Smyth’s long membership and representation of the Labour Party nor any suggestion that his leader Anas Sarwar might be asked how he feels about another sex offender in his ranks.

How many Scottish Labour MSPs MPs or councillors have been accused of sex offences against children?

Scottish Labour MSPs

  • Colin Smyth: Accused and charged with possession of indecent images of children and voyeurism (including placing a hidden camera in a Holyrood toilet). He was suspended from Scottish Labour in August 2025 and appeared in court in September 2025. Count: 1

Scottish Labour Councillors

Three distinct individuals were identified:

  • David Graham (Fife Council): Accused and charged with grooming and sexual offences against a teenage girl (aged 13–15) in 2023. Convicted in July 2025 and jailed in August 2025. Suspended and expelled from Scottish Labour. Count: 1
  • Craig Edward (West Dunbartonshire Council): Accused and charged with possession, making, and distribution of indecent images of children (2016–2022). Pleaded guilty in February 2024, jailed in March 2024. Suspended from Scottish Labour in 2022 and resigned as a councillor in 2024. Count: 1
  • David Fagan (North Lanarkshire Council): Accused and charged with possession of indecent images of children (alleged in June 2016). Appeared in court in October 2016. Suspended from Scottish Labour. Count: 1

Other cases (e.g., Ewan Dillon, Sean Morton) involved indecent images but were not explicitly tied to Scottish Labour in reports; they appear to have been independents or from other affiliations at the time of offences.

The SNP has no child sex-offending MSPs or MPs but two councillors who, of course, are always linked to the SNP.

  1. I would urge caution in the reporting any politician, of any political party, charged with any offence. While your reporting is accurate, and necessary, it may be, just maybe, that those of us on the Independence side are not squeaky clean, although I have no evidence to support this claim. If their are any, I’m quite sure the M.S.M will let us know, with banner headlines.

    1. Er blue tents, removing personal belongings, taking SNP politicians into custody for questioning, ongoing ‘investigation’ taking years and years…I think the ‘MSM’ have the plenty of material via the BritNat states’ propaganda and demonisation of the SNP already.

  2. Talking of Labour….and another scandal and disgrace……re their HQ’s unfair, undignified and undemocratic position relating to Scotland.

Keir Starmer was recently quoted as saying that:

“We’re not having an independence referendum. It is a distraction. It won’t happen. It is a distraction from the record of the SNP.”

The context of this statement from Starmer was in relation to the SNP achieving a majority in next years Scottish elections, that would then be seen as a a mandate for a second independence referendum.

It is a distraction from the record of the SNP.”…..

Ironic when there exists so many “distractions” from much of the mess Labour HQ , and indeed Keir Starmer as PM and Labour leader, have been making since winning last year’s GE……

It is also ironic that with this quote from Starmer being said in the context of the SNP winning a majority next year and with that being the case, then surely it is most obvious that the majority of the public within Scotland were more than happy with “the record of the SNP” as a Scottish government .

Indeed the SNP’s overall performance and their “record” as a Scottish government , is obviously regarded by the public in Scotland as being somewhat successful….unlike Keir Starmer’s “record” as the new UK PM….where the opinion polls are most unfavourable with his “record” so far…..which is polling as a minus figure.

So if we are talking about the “SNP’s record” then they, the SNP, have been winning elections in Holyrood for quite a long time…..quite remarkable really….. all things considered….like for example , Scotland still being under the obvious colonial rule(s) and constraints of a ruthless and hostile UK government….. where our Scottish government have to contend with so much negativity via various hostile UK political parties , both from their UK HQ’s and also their respective branch offices, and then of course additionally the unrelenting attacks from the vindictive pro UK media.

This Labour scandal linked to the Labour MSP Colin Smyth and also the various other Labour politician scandals at different political levels, both sexual and otherwise, expose the fact that Labour have absolutely no right to act as if they are entitled to be self righteous.

Indeed Jackie Baillie is often given an undeserved constant opportunity by the media to opine on what are promoted, by her and the media, as being #SNPBAD ‘scandals’…… that are then over promoted and also regularly revisited by that same media with the sole intention of damaging the SNP party politically.

However we are all aware of the various scandals linked to Labour politicians and indeed the Labour party itself which proves that , as a party and as individuals, Labour are not infallible or indeed irreproachable when it comes to their own various political scandals….

Though to hear Jackie Baille making derogatory remarks in relation to the SNP then you would think that Labour were , as a party and via individual Labour politicians, those who were to be seen as and so regarded as being totally unblemished by any political scandals or political controversies. (and fiascos….).

However now that Labour HQ are in charge of the UK then at last Labour as a party, to include their HQ and branch offices, are all being judged and so then exposed to far more scrutiny than they previously were….

So they, Labour as a party, can now no longer try to ‘go under the political radar’ where previously they had tried to hide.

As they previously assumed that they could continue to carp from the sidelines , as if they were those who could judge other political parties and their respective performances, while they, Labour, could then be seen to be those who could and would supposedly do far far better…….that bubble has now been well and truly burst as a false representation.

Sarwar always declares that he supposedly has all of the ‘solutions’ to everything in respect to how he and his party could do a better job than the SNP in Scotland as a government…..

Yet now the public in Scotland are witnessing Labour HQ failing to solve that which they pledged they would do as a new UK government……as in them not bringing down energy prices nor indeed the overall cost of living crisis .

Then of course there is still not a fraction of the 69,000 jobs that Sarwar promised via Labour HQ’s GB Energy in Scotland, also Labour HQ did not save Grangemouth refinery when Sarwar promised they would do in his 2024 GE campaign.

Then of course they , Labour HQ, also went back on the pledge that many of them made individually, including Keir Starmer, to WASPI women in them ensuring the WASPI women that they would be compensated by a new Labour UK government for the loss that they suffered via their pension entitlements being taken away by the the previous Tory UK government .

The polls in Scotland are currently showing that it is Labour who are being judged as having as poor “record” as the new UK government and also the fact that the Labour branch office in Scotland often defend their HQ, so with them doing that ….then they, the Labour branch office, are now also being impacted in that they are being noted as having a very weak position in the recent polls within Scotland.

You reap what you sow….and Labour’s branch office here in Scotland have both enabled and emboldened their HQ to reap so much S*** within Scotland as the new UK government which has negatively impacted us here…..and they have also failed to solve anything that they formerly accused the Tories of failing to resolve.…….instead they, Labour HQ and their branch office in Scotland, have played the ‘Blame game’ for too long….and now it is making the public very weary indeed of their persistent excuses and their obvious lack of any real progress or real “Change”……..proving that if you vote Labour you then get Tory.

That is something that will never “Change” or that Labour will not “Renew” as their ongoing official party position….as those who truly are the Red Tories.
