From inkl in October 2024:
Households in Scotland are paying higher energy bills than they ought to keep prices down south of the Border, according to experts at the Fuller Treacy Money investment strategy firm.
In a newsletter arguing against zonal pricing, the firm’s owner Eoin Treacy [above] says it is better for Scots to pay over the odds than those living in the English capital.
Zonal pricing, which has been considered by the UK Government in the past, would see places like Scotland – where lots of energy is produced but there is lower demand – pay cheaper bills, while London would pay more than they currently do.
You have to respect the transparent, if callous, honesty in this.
Further down but clearly not influencing Treacy’s thinking:
Kenny MacAskill said: “Privatisation and fragmentation have rendered the entire UK energy system dysfunctional.
“But what’s clear is that Scotland is energy rich, yet half of Scots are in fuel poverty. It’s perverse that turbines turn on land and sea, yet folk cant heat their homes.
“First it was oil and gas and now its renewables. It’s about time that Scotland and Scots benefitted from their resource. If that means zonal pricing then so be it, it’s what we’re due.”

The Scottish Government opposed zonal pricing.

Fiona and Marlene, the Independence Live podcasters, interview Gordon MacIntyre-Kemp about the new link with the SNP. Gordon mentions the success of their ISwitch campaign in alerting people to how much they are being ripped off for energy costs. The Highlands have the highest energy costs in the world. People just don’t know about it and they’re furious when they find out.

Yes well worth watching and following Indy podcasters on YouTube.
I looked at a map with standing charges for electricity, a while back maybe lat year, and I’m sure SC were highest in the central belt. Need to look into that again, not much difference between areas in Scotland and I think all of Scotland is charged more by the English government, for their electricity.

I recall seeing a map where the Highlands has the highest charges in Europe, but I can’t find it now. Will post if I do.

Indeed people in Scotland are charged more for their energy. I presume it’s a UK English government decision being as they control the ‘national’ grid, though the grid was run by a private US company some years ago, not sure about now.
