In the Daily Record yesterday:
Anas Sarwar has insisted many households are £5000 better off since Labour came to power and demanded Keir Starmer “tell that positive story”. “So if you are a full time working couple on the average income with a mortgage you could be £5000 better off under a Labour government.”
So, you need a mortgage to deserve help from Labour? That’s around 29% only with a mortgage, 63% whose parents already own their home.1
In the old days, the other 27% were core Labour voters.
Average income in Scotland? The median is £38k2, £76k for a couple?
60-70% of voters earn less than the average income3 and by definition 50% earn less than the median.
Has anyone ever worked out who is better off under the SNP?
The IFS:
Households towards the top of the distribution will be net losers as a result of the income tax changes, which will cost the richest tenth of Scottish households almost £1,400 per year on average (1.2% of their income). In contrast, poorer households have gained from the increase and big expansion of the Scottish child payment. The poorest tenth of Scottish households will gain the equivalent of almost £260 per year, or 2% of their incomes, on average, from the combined effect of the benefits and income tax changes. Households with children in approximately the bottom third of the income distribution will gain, on average, around £1,200 per year – around 4%–5% of their incomes.4
So, only the top 10% will lose out much and a good 33% of the less well off will do better under the SNP?
Sounds like a leaflet to me.

Sarwar and his cronies will NOT be broadcasting that many of the benefits of the SNP administrations will be abolished if he and his Tory tribute Act ( aka Scottish labour ) ever attain power at Holyrood .
This is a Labour (sic ) leader whose own family business had to be dragged kicking and screaming to pay the Scottish Living Wage while he brazenly claimed that he had no influence on the firm . If he has no influence on his own family business what is the point of putting such a wuss in charge of the country ?
