It’s been a while since Andrew Bowie last sickened us. Then, it was the risk of radiation sickness

The National today has the above headline and:

Andrew Bowie, the MP for West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine, embarked on an all expenses paid trip to Israel between August 25 and 29 this year.

The trip was described as a “fact-finding political delegation” in Bowie’s MP register of interests, and was paid for by the Conservative Friends of Israel.

Bowie registered air travel, accommodation and hospitality for the visit to Israel as costing £4200. He told The National that he met with senior members of the Israel Defence Force (IDF) during the trip. The shadow Scottish secretary was not the only Tory MP to take part in the visit.

Checking the TuS archives, I see we used to dwell on Bowie regularly with the last one, this:

From Policy Mogul 11 January 2024:

Government roadmap includes exploring a new power station as big as Hinkley C and Sizewell C  UK becomes first country in Europe to launch high-tech nuclear fuel programme with up to £300 million investment into UK production, pushing Putin out of global market  Measures such as smarter [sic] regulation will help quadruple UK nuclear power by 2050 up to 24GW – the biggest expansion for 70 years

Minister for Nuclear Andrew Bowie said:

“The government’s investment in nuclear will ensure the UK remains at the forefront of technological developments. Our plans will give investors the confidence to back new UK projects, with a simpler process for locating new schemes and clear support for private sector companies developing innovative new technologies.

Biggest expansion of nuclear power for 70 years to create jobs, reduce bills and strengthen Britain’s energy security – Key updates – PolicyMogul

I don’t know about you but that ‘smarter regulation’ term starts alarm bells ringing for me. They mean ‘less demanding’ don’t they.

As for Bowie, well we all know about him.

What happens in you invest big-time in nuclear? See these:

and this:

On June 16th this year, Reuters reported that in France- frequently cited by nuclear lobbyists as a successful example of nuclear investment-  at least 50% of nuclear reactors were off-line as a result of corrosion.

The same report  confirmed that the struggle to complete the construction of the now notorious  EPR reactor at Flammanville was 4 times over budget (nearly 13Billion Euros)  and over 10 years late.  Failure of materials and welding were cited as the key problems.

  1. I note that wee Sub-Lt. Bowie ( failed ) met with senior IDF members . Was this to give them the benefit of his vast experience as a (failed ) mariner ?

  2. first country in Europe to launch high-tech nuclear fuel programme with up to £300 million investment into UK production, pushing Putin out of global market

If UK is the first country in Europe to do this then maybe there’s a good reason why nobody else is doing it. Could it be the disposal of the waste problem?

£300 million to push Putin out of global market – really? Where are they going to buy their uranium from?

  3. Aye Andrew Bowie…….the word ‘smarmy’ comes to mind….I suspect in his constituency it is the party and not the man that is being voted for in the UK GE’s, that is where he, Bowie, has kept winning his seat at WM….though why, I do not know….but I could hazard a guess.

Good to now see that his party are now more or less imploding and so they are a minor player in politics…..that should hopefully keep his inflated ego and his obvious sense of self importance in it’s rightful place…….as in at the bottom of the food chain….. as an apt expression that also comes to mind when I (very rarely) think of him……..and his party.

Tory House of cards and all that…………long overdue…..they, as a party, are only running on bravado now……..

Meanwhile Russell Findlay is completely delusional and thinks that he still works for The Sun newspaper…..with his tabloid state of mind……stays in the gutter it seems….as a so called politician. (and who as a Tory branch office manager in Scotland cannot even keep his own Tory Councillors in the Tory party…as many defect to Reform UK…..so clearly Russell is failing in his Junior and minor role as the pretend leader here in Scotland).
