While all homelessness is to be deeply regretted, it is important that accurate figures are disseminated in the media with a view to informing political action, such as in choosing who to vote for in 2026.
From Homelessness in Scotland: youth homelessness published today, we can see that in the last years of Labour/Lib Dem government in Scotland, 2007/2008, there were 20 366 under 24 year-olds homeless. This fell steadily over the next 18 years, to less than half, and there were 9 013 in 2024/2025: https://www.gov.scot/publications/homelessness-in-scotland-youth-homelessness/
From Homelessness in Scotland: veteran homelessness, also published today, we see a similar trend with a fall from 56 850 in 2007/2008, to 40 688 in 2024/2025, a 28% fall: https://www.gov.scot/publications/homelessness-in-scotland-veteran-homelessness/
From Homelessness in Scotland: prison homelessness, also published today, the trend is positive though less impressively so, with a fall from 1 950 in 2007/2008 to 1 740 in 2024/2025, an 11% fall: https://www.gov.scot/publications/homelessness-in-scotland-prison-homelessness/
