On 21 September 2025, the Herald has the above two tasteless images and the headlines:
40,000 homeless law breaks as ScotGov housing emergency branded ‘sham’
Why are Scots councils allowed to break homeless laws ‘with impunity’?
The first is based on yet-another infantile adding up to get a big number method, over 8 years this time.
The second is, frankly, a disgusting misrepresentation of the fact that only 5% report rough-sleeping on the night before their application: https://www.gov.scot/collections/homelessness-statistics/
Neither report bothers with the wider context. Here it is:

From Homelessness in Scotland: 2023-24 published in September 2024:
- 33,619 households assessed as homeless
- 38,075 adults
- 15,474 children https://www.gov.scot/publications/homelessness-in-scotland-2023-24/
53 549 people or a ratio of 99.26 per 10 000 people in Scotland’s 5.44 million.

Sadly, it is now becoming the default “standard” for the Herald and its “journalists” in producing ever more lurid headlines in the hope of retaining what little remains of its readers.
Over the years it has certainly has aimed to put back support for the SNP via its “trusted journalism”… Along it seems with with its own circulation.
In April 2007 its circulation was 69,829 in 2024 its circulation was 9,952. 🙂
