I’ll be quick on this one.
They, the MSM and politicians, would just love it if Scotland had the same water shortage problems as England does and they’ve pounced on these ‘restrictions‘ in only Aberdeenshire’s Ythan and the North Fife areas.
So, are the folk there suffering a hosepipe ban, running out of water for a bath on these steamy days?
No, ‘restrictions’ does not mean the general public.
From STV, yesterday:
The Scottish Environmental Protection Agency has now imposed restrictions in these areas on the amount of water that can be abstracted – the process of removing or diverting water from the natural environment through methods such as pumps and wells.
Who does that? Farms, factories and so on and they will have large water storage tanks in anticipation of such restrictions.
Why will this scare never take off?
Well, there’s 5.5 million litres of water for every Scot?
How much more fresh water does Scotland have than England?
Scotland’s Loch Ness alone contains 7,452 million cubic meters of water, which is more than the combined volume of all lakes and reservoirs in England and Wales.
https://www.environment.gov.scot/our-environment/water/scotland-s-freshwater/ https://www.nature.scot/landscapes-and-habitats/habitat-types/lochs-rivers-and-wetlands/freshwater-lochs
England and Wales, by contrast, have far fewer natural lakes, with reservoirs like Rutland Water (12.5 km²) and Kielder Reservoir being among the largest, but their total volume is significantly less than Scotland’s.
http://www.fao.org/3/T0798E16.htm
Scotland’s water reserves are estimated at 5,500,000 liters per person, compared to England’s 134,000 liters per person, highlighting a vast disparity due to Scotland’s smaller population (around 5.5 million) and abundant resources compared to England’s larger population (around 56 million). Scotland is often cited as having around 90% of the UK’s freshwater resources, largely due to its extensive loch system and higher rainfall (averaging 1,500–3,000 mm annually compared to England’s lower averages, particularly in the south).

In the same way the MSM were salivating at the thought of Scotland suffering from the latest ‘storm’ that apparently was heading our way with forecasts of heavy rain which never materialised. They just hate it when Scotland is not suffering like the good folks in SE England.

A minor point on Kielder, it is not natural, it is the biggest man-made reservoir in the UK…
Otherwise your principal point is entirely valid, there is no connection whatever between river abstraction limitations on certain rivers and the public water supply, however much the chief propagandist/editor of BBC Scotland would prefer to frame it…
