The Guardian, today, has:
UK to clarify definition of ‘honour’-based abuse in drive to cut violence against women and girls
and, at the end, this:
Yasmin Javed, whose daughter Fawziyah Javed was pushed off Arthur’s Seat in Edinburgh, Scotland by her husband after learning she was pregnant and had planned to leave the marriage, said she was “pleased” the government had listened to calls from campaigners. “I hope that this will help many more people affected by HBA and ensure that the multiple perpetrators of this abuse are properly recognised and addressed,” she added.
The version in the Metro is even included in BBC Scotland’s papers today
It’s interesting that they choose only an example from Scotland. Both the killer and the victim had travelled from Leeds that day in 2021, for a holiday. The Guardian‘s failure to mention that and their ‘UK’ headline suggest that honour-based killing is a thing in Scotland.
There are around 130 000 people of South Asian heritage living in Scotland yet there has never been a single honours-based killing. In a 2024 Freedom of Information answer, Police Scotland recorded between 2018 and 2024, no ‘Honours Based’ homicides in Scotland.
From Grok AI:
There isn’t enough information in the provided data to give an exact number of honour-based homicides in England and Wales for a specific recent year. However, here’s what can be pieced together from the available sources. General homicide statistics: For the year ending March 2024, there were 570 total homicide victims in England and Wales, with 108 classified as domestic homicides (83 women, 25 men). Honour-based homicides are often domestic in nature, but no specific subset for honour-based killings is isolated in the data.
Estimates from X posts: Some posts on X claim there are around 10-15 honour-based killings annually in the UK, but these figures are not backed by official statistics in the provided references and should be treated as unverified.

I stopped buying a license (Paying the propaganda tax?) years ago. I have written, more than once, to explain that I won’t pay for (or watch) anti-Scotland lies and omission. I recently pushed for, and received in writing, confirmation that there is no legal requirement to acknowledge or reply to threatening letters (Red ink) from the licensing authority. I would urge all who care about Scotland to do the same. John.
