In the wake of multiple reports, globally, of giant jellyfish blooms choking power stations, we have a number of reports of the dangers that might be posed by radioactive insects.

From the Daily Beast:

Workers have discovered a wasp nest in South Carolina exceeding 10 times the radiation level allowed by the federal government. Employees at the Savannah River Site were conducting regular radiation tests when they found the nest on a post by a storage facility for liquid nuclear waste. The nest was promptly sprayed with insect killer and disposed of, though no wasps were found.

That no wasps were found simply tells us they were off stinging the locals.

In the UK the Daily Mail (a beast too) we have:

Nuclear wasps fallout explodes as worker from bomb factory blows the lid on the true threat of the crisis… while battling FIVE cancers

This is behind the paywall so I cannot elaborate on the further revelations. If anyone can, I be delighted to see them.

Readers will be well aware that we, in Scotland, have our fair share of angry wasps at this time of your, and of course, 200 000 TRILLION equally aggressive midges: https://travelness.com/scotland-midges

Update from Anonymous, today::

The former quality control and safety worker at the Savannah River Site nuclear bomb plant added: ‘It’s going to take them years and years to clean that place up, and in some places they can’t completely clean it up. They’ll just put a fence around it and make sure nobody accesses that area.

‘Things get radiation embedded and, you know, it’s always going to be there. That place is going to have issues well into the future.’

Comforting news as UK Labour drive ahead with their plans for multiple new nuclear reactors across the UK. Particularly as they”reform planning rules” and “slash red tape” to do so: Government rips up rules to fire-up nuclear power – GOV.UK

  2. Starmer will be gone in four years. Not enough time for nuclear. Too late. Nuclear years late and over budget. Totally unaffordable. A total mess. No where to put the waste. Hickley Point years late and over budget.

    Local Councils should refuse planning permission. Backed up by the Scottish Gov. Get rid of Trident. A menace in Scotland.

    Westminster spends £13Billion a year decommissioning nuclear. A total waste of time and money. Renewables are far cheaper and safer especially in Scotland. The best place for renewables in the world. Water, wind, ocean, solar. Scotland has them all. Independence Scotland would prosper. Scotland in surplus in fuel and energy pays more. The policies of the UK Gov. No parity.
