Despite computerised systems, DNA evidence from Nicola’s hairbrushes, mobile phone records and a big blue tent, the police investigation into ‘SNP fraud’ will soon take longer than the Yorkshire Ripper case

Professor John Robertson OBA, Crime Correspondent

As Nicola Sturgeon speaks of the ordeal of being arrested and as MSM Monitor‘s question above waits to be answered, the trial of the SNP CE looks suspiciously likely to be set for the days just before the Holyrood election in May 2026.

The Yorkshire Ripper investigation ran from August 1975 to January 1981, 5 years and six months, before Peter Sutciffe was charged with the murder of thirteen women. The excessive length of the investigation is attributed to the lack of a computerised system, DNA evidence or mobile phone evidence. Several tents were employed to cover the scenes of the bloody murders.

Yorkshire and national media were extremely critical of the police performance.

Operation Branchform, an investigation into possible fundraising fraud by the SNP began in July 2021 and is still open more than 4 years later, with no sign of a trial date. One big blue tent was employed for no apparent reason. Computerised systems, DNA (from Nicola’s confiscated hairbrushes) and mobile phone records were available but seem to have been little help.

Scottish media just love this.

Netflix series – The Camper Van, the Hairbrush and the Waste of Public Funds – is planned for 2030.

  1. Hushed silence in court as Judge Jaikie puts on her Black Cap.

“Guilty. Take her out and shoot her”.

“But judge, she is just a witness, and not on trial”.

“Don’t “innocent” me, clerk of the court. Just take her out and shoot her”. “The polis never put that blue tent up fur nuffin'”.

    Applause in the press gallery.

  2. The yoons and MSM are raging that NS is not being charged and found guilty even on a trumped up charge and I always thought that blue tents were set up on for the likes of a murder like the above this will be the news just before the Scottish elections.

  3. It is amazing how other political parties including Labour are allowed to purchase campervans for campaigning, but it is considered a matter for seizure and police investigation if the SNP does. The ‘infamous’ campervan was requested to be returned during the last GE but police refused, meaning that the money was indeed wasted, but not the fault of Ms. Sturgeon or anyone else except Police Scotland. Odd that.

  5. AI concludes,

You are correct that the blue tent, in the context of a financial crime investigation, was an unusual and highly visible act by the police. It created a powerful visual for the media and fueled the narrative, especially among critics of the investigation, that this was not a standard police procedure but a politically motivated spectacle designed to damage the SNP.

While the police would argue it was simply a necessary operational decision, the public reaction demonstrates how such choices can be interpreted in a highly politicized environment. The fact that the case has taken so long, and a trial could coincide with an election, has only added to the suspicion that something more than a straightforward legal process is at play

  6. My husband and I (not the Royal we) have a friend who neither supports the SNP nor supports independence and even he thought that the blue tents seemed very much OTT as an action, and so he concluded that it looked as if it was being done to make it seem even more serious and more criminal…….

So who decided that the use of Blue tents were appropriate in this situation ?

Is any of the, checks notes, so called media curious in regards to this ?

(I jest of course…as if they would seek to pursue that…)

I mean surely they, the Police, knew full well that this , as an event, would be photographed and televised by the media, so it was hardly discreet as an action, indeed it screamed for ‘ATTENTION’ as apparently there is a MAJOR CRIME BEING INVESTIGATED HERE…….or so someone somewhere desperately wanted the public to see it that way……..

As to the duration of this investigation where at least there has now been a charge made (of NS’s , soon to be ex, husband) and also there is to be a trial to be had eventually (maybe just before the Scottish elections next year, yes ?) , so then one wonders what the duck is happening with the police investigation down South with Michelle Mone ?

(The Crime agency said the investigation on that started in May 2021, yet she -still a Baroness – Mone was allowed to swan off , or rather sail off into the sunset, on a yacht thought to have been bought via the proceeds of the (dodgy) PPE deal that is being investigated).

Rules for some and rules for others….that’s your UK people…..your UK politics and UK media too….that sides with pro UK political parties against other parties seeking independence.

    1. It’s potentially a witchhunt, quite simple. If the Brit state could have done a Willie Macrae job on NS they would have. Mobile phones now make all of that sort of tactic very difficult…
The Brit state using tactics to attempt to bring down the SNP, it stinks to high heaven and I hope when it’s all over (after the Scot election of course) NS will sue the pants off of them.

  7. BBC Scotchland’s headline for the former First Minister’s launch of her memoirs picks the usual negative headline.

Later on the narrative is almost trying to paint her as a human being and hard done by.

    Heads will roll for this!
