Talking of water…..as in ‘uisge beatha’ the ‘water of life’……this below was on the UK Politics page but when you click onto the story it takes you to the Asia page of the BBC website.
“India PM Modi in UK to sign ‘landmark’ trade deal with Starmer”
“India and Britain are set to sign a free trade deal to cut tariffs on goods and increase market access for the two countries”.
“India will lower tariffs on British whisky, gin and other drinks as well as cars. The UK in turn will import more of India’s textiles, gemstones and other goods”.
At last someone has done it…..British Whisky made in Britain as part of a trade deal post Brexit…………so now let’s get all of those labels on Whisky bottles changed to ‘Made in Britain‘ with a compulsory British Flag.
(In fact do some not already do that ?)
BTW Gin is also now very much a drink that is produced in Scotland, approximately 70% of the gin produced in the United Kingdom is made in Scotland.
However perhaps Cherylann Mollan, the correspondent for BBC News in Mumbai, who wrote this piece assumed that Gin too was British when she wrote “British Whisky, Gin and other drinks”.
“This deal will boost the British economy by £4.8bn a year. It comes after nearly three years of negotiations”
(Three years , so it as a deal, was begun by the Tories).
“Sir Keir called the “landmark” deal a major win for Britain” .
( As in once again both a UK government and their Britain profiting from produce that is made in Scotland…..the same Scotland that they said was too poor to go it alone….yet in all of the UK Trade deals there are always Scottish Food and Drinks factored into the Trade deals made with other countries…..).
(Also BBC website…..story from , checks notes, 13 hours ago on their website, now the 11th story on their Scotland page “Councillor guilty of sex offences against teenage girl”….guess which party….obviously not the SNP as the party name would have been in the headline….he is a Labour politician….BTW he is still not expelled from the Labour party…he was suspended two years ago by them….but now even although proven guilty he is yet to be expelled by Labour…..this story will soon disappear from the Scotland pages of the BBC website…interestingly it , as a story, is not on their Scottish Politics page…..strange considering he was a former politician and if he had been found not guilty he would have still been one….BBC just cannot break this British media habit on behalf of British political parties , as in when it is a scandal then their British party name is excluded from the headline- yet the party name is always included when it is an SNP politician).
I need a drink….either a glass of clean non polluted Scottish water or a glass of the ‘Water of Life’……..

The butchers apron does appear on some whiskies I think.
Anyway, £4.5Billion is almost nothing, and I am no economist, it’s ridiculously small compared to losses resulting from England’s Brexit!. I wonder what the ‘other goods’ being imported into their UknotOk will be then.

It will only be a matter of time before it’s called English whisky.
“The Borg” would be impressed with their assimilation.

I heard the news headlines this afternoon on the radio. They mentioned it was a good deal for Scotch and English Gin. I though 70% of Gin in the UK came from Scotland.

“They mentioned it was a good deal for Scotch and English Gin”
Yep 70% of Gin in UK is produced in Scotland, so either they only did a Trade deal that would benefit Gin made in England or the person who “mentioned it was a good deal” was either assuming it would be Gin made in England or they were lying (perhaps not wanting the Jocks to know that all alcohol in this Trade deal was mainly via Scotland….as in the nation declared to be the poorest within the UK, so much so it needs to be subsidised more than all other nations within the UK).
I also see the story has been updated on the UK politics page (click on story and go onto Asia page) .
New correspondent has now penned the new version of this story , someone called Jennifer McKiernan a political Reporter (UK one I assume as story on UK politics page).
Now it states “UK cars and whisky” ……..the article also states that “The deal will create more than 2,200 British jobs across the country”……..now what country are they referring to ?
Is it in the context of a ‘country’ that they see as being mainland Britain or the UK , or is it Starmer’s version of “the country” as in his England only.

Well , as Scotland is simply a region of Englandshire then calling Scotch Whisky ”British” is surely acceptable – as Englandshire is just another name for the UK/Britain /etc…
Simples ( if you are Starmer !)

There have always been tarriffs imposed by US, India, China and others a protectionist market. US 360million pop. China 1.3Billion pop. India 1.4Billion pop. EU negotiated 500million negotiated favourable deals. Then Brexit UK lost £Billions in trade. Scotland did not vote for it. Nearest biggest market. CAP payments. Shared Defence costs. Scotland paid no contribution with favourable EU trade deal. Sooner Scotland is back in the better. Westmibster poor, bad decisions.

I’d archived this article yesterday when it was mentioned over on WGD https://archive.ph/2LzeQ ” Mapped: The areas of the UK with the highest levels of crime revealed ” – Yet they wonder why Scots get pissed off…..

Exactly Bob, a tag team of idiots often declare that Scotland’s crime figures are the worse, I say Idiots , but then as well as them being Idiots they are also either clueless on all things related to Scotland and it’s politics or they just lie constantly to try and gain a political advantage for their party and also for their very much non existent Union aka the UK.
It is a Labour Mayor in London (Sadiq Khan) – “The Met Police recorded the highest number of crimes last year, with 942,674 offences logged across London”.
It is a Labour Metro Mayor (Andy Burnham) in Manchester “Greater Manchester Police followed with just over 319,000 offences”
It is a Labour Mayor since UK GE in 2024 (Richard Parker) previously a Tory mayor (Andy Street) in West Midlands “West Midlands Police came third highest with nearly 309,000″.
It is a Labour Mayor (Tracy Brabin) in West Yorkshire “West Yorkshire Police has second highest number of sexual offences”. (followed again by Greater Manchester).
Funny is not Bob that the Labour UK leader and UK PM , Keir Starmer , stated the other week in the HOC’s that he had been speaking to Labour English Mayors about the Bus Manufacturer Alexander Dennis, yet really , based on the article on Crime increasing in England & Wales that you linked above (published on 24 July as in after Starmer claimed he had been speaking to English Mayors) , then perhaps he, as Labour leader and UK PM , should be talking to these Labour Mayors about the state of the increased crime figures in their respective areas that they are the Mayors of ………..and also speaking to the Labour Welsh devolved government as well where the article also stated that “It showed the number of crimes against individuals and households in England and Wales rose to around 9.4 million in the year ending March 2025″.
