In just 72 words, your perfect response to questions on the SNP’s use of the Scottish budget allocation from Westminster and the need for ‘full fiscal autonomy’

How Westmnister denied us almost exactly 10 years to the day, today

Professor John Robertson OBA

From First Minister correspondence including phrase “full fiscal autonomy”: FOI release published today:

For the period 8th May 2024 – date, please provide all correspondence sent by, or to, John Swinney (or his private office) which includes the phrase “full fiscal autonomy”.

The National (Scotland) 12 Budget is a reminder of who really controls our funding We could use Scotland’s vast renewable energy resources to lower costs and become a green energy leader. The UK is one of the worst-performing economies in Europe, so why should Scotland remain tied to it? With full fiscal autonomy, Scotland could invest in policies that align with our strengths and needs rather than being bound by Westminster’s limitations.

  1. I suspect to any Unionist politician when Scotland usually out performs rUK in just about everything the thought of giving us yet more autonomy let alone more fiscal powers would in their eyes mean almost certainly the end of the Union.

    1. O.K Robbo, I’m a member of the S.N.P, but after many years of canvassing I’m quite certain that one hell of a lot of the electorate don’t even realise how much, since 2007, my party, sometimes by themselves, some times with the help of others, improved the lives of the people of Scotland. You only have to look at other parts of the U.K to realise the difference. But do at least some of voters realise this? They either don’t, as last year’s G.E results showed, or they never want Scotland to become an Independent nation once again, when they voted for political parties belonging to another country. Or in the case of Reform, a private company, owned by despicable people.

        1. In answer to your first question John, undoubtably some do, but many others do not. I’m not certain if this is the correct phrase, but what I see as the “feather bedding” of our people, and by that I mean the mitigations put in force by the Scottish Government to protect us from the worst excesses of successive Westminster administrations, and so such a lot don’t realise that matters are much worse in other parts of the U.K. And yes, I’m afraid, despite their dwindling influence, a fair number, even amongst members of my own family who are all for Scottish Independence, get their “news” from what passes for a Scottish media, but in reality, is a trojan horse in most cases, whose main task is to present our country in such a bad light that we cannot survive as an Independent nation. Led of course by that bastion of British State propaganda, B.B.C Scotland. Of course it has to mentioned that they are assisted in their quest by the fifth columnists/quislings in our midst, openly bad mouthing any S.G achievements in order to secure their sinecure. And by that I mean a well paid job for a few years doing nothing except betraying their country, and if they are very good, when they are rejected, a touch of ermine.

      1. Absolutely, well said. the ‘media’ BritEng propaganda is deployed day in day out and it massively influences how people view the SNP and the Scottish parliament, or they wouldn’t do it. The EngGov controlled BBC, ‘BBC Scotland’ and all the others who use the name Scotland or Scottish in their titles, are all fake, all HQ’d in England.
Broadcasting being a rserved power to the English government, that alone suggests Scotland is a a colony.
It’s a huge mountain to climb to get people to wake up, but not impossible.
Hope those who can will dod everything in their power and with any spare cash, to get the facts about Scotland out there.

  2. WHY ARE SCOTS LEADERS WAITING TO GET FULL AUTONOMY

    1. I agree entirely which is why as a long standing SNP member I get very frustrated that the Party seem almost unwilling or unable to get that positive message across especially as they know they certainly can’t rely on our MSM. Very irritating but I guess if political commentators keep telling us they are skint is accurate the opportunity has once again passed us by. I did however on a previous post suggest crowdfunding for Billboards at strategic locations for that specific purpose.

      1. I’ve been banging on about funding billboards too. Nobody ever takes me up on it.

  3. Our SNP/pro-indy lot need to be much more vocal.

Explain what you want, and why. If you’re a “NAT”, then so are they.

Write to the press and explain your case. Do it daily till your letters gets in.

Use phone-ins and hi-jack the discussion (BBC phone-ins will seldom/never have a debate on Scotland).

Get back on the street with stalls, marches and cavalcades.

Be loud–be proud. Tell them you are a PATRIOT–same as Starmer (England).

Lose the cringe and tell them Scotland wants to JOIN the world, not separate from it. Be positive, never obnoxious or nasty.

Point to all the small prosperous countries which surround Scotland.

    1. it’s sometimes difficult not to be difficult or nasty. A lot of unionist comments on social media are really only looking for a fight so there’s no point in engaging. I find blocking quite cathartic.
