Thanks to rtpscott for alerting me to this:
From Daily Business two days ago:
British taxpayers could be on the hook for more than £1 billion following the collapse of the Lindsey oil refinery in North Lincolnshire.
HMRC is said to be owed £250m in unpaid taxes, while the facility’s decomissioning costs could be up to £3bn.
The refinery is at risk after its owner, State Oil, filed for insolvency on Monday. The Official Receiver has reached a deal with the commodities trading giant, Glencore, that will ensure supplies of crude oil to the refinery.
Ministers have pledged to provide “short-term funding” to cover the operating costs of the facility as a sale process and potential wind-down gets underway.
The urgency of ministers to save the refinery has caused anger north of the border as the government did not make any attempt to underwrite the costs of the Grangemouth plant which has now closed. However, these concerns have been mainly on social media, with little comment coming from the SNP on the issue.

So, to save an English oil refinery so that it can replace a Scottish oil refinery to refine oil almost entirely from Scottish waters, the Scottish taxpayer must contribute, pro rata with one tenth of the UK population around, one tenth, £100m?

So unfair – but typical of Westminster

Not just ‘unfair’ this is designed to remove essential industry from Scotland and relocate it to England. It’s very deliberate and this tactic is being used to undermine Scotland’s vast oil reserves (dirty stuff when it comes to Scotland laying claim to that resource, I know) and it will not stop there.

If they did, they’d only be criticised for flipping on their policy of reduction on reliance on carbon-based energy.

Yes, because oil is dirty when Scotland lays claim to their oil reserves, (not dirty when the EngGov thieves it all though) and they did speak out about it but of course did the ‘media’ bother to say anything much about it, no.
I thought SNP had said they have plans to develop the site and save jobs?

Save jobs? That ship sailed long ago – along with the skilled workforce. Some of whom have moved into different industries now.

Shutting Grangemouth and our Oil platforms is SNP policy so we reach net zero. Deindustrialisation of Scotland is the SNPs/Greens policy while we buy solar panels from China who burn coal to power there power stations.meanwhile Several new oil and gas discoveries have been made recently in Norway, with notable finds in the North Sea and the Barents Sea. These discoveries, made by companies like DNO and Equinor, are boosting Norway’s position as a key energy supplier and potentially increasing recoverable resources. SNP are destroying Scotlands economy due to ideology which is causing unemployment.

A government that advocates for Independence fails before they even have a chance at it. Not securing Scotland’s oil industry and using it as a corner of independence has killed their hopes entirely. Keir Starmer, Rachel Reeves and Ed Milliband have been shown as being wholeheartedly incompetent with zero common sense. These so called politicians have zero knowledge in any of the subjects they are in charge of. In no other line of work do you employ someone that doesn’t have a clue about what they are being tasked with. You don’t hire a cleaner as a heart surgeon.

Remember Anas Sarwar stating that if he wins power next year then he would want to adopt a “Musk style of department to clear out inefficient quangos and government waste” (Doge) and we also had the new(ish) failing Tory ‘leader’ here Russell Findlay also state that he too has ” plans for a Scottish Doge”.
This is in line with Reform UK’s plans to adopt a Doge style cutting exercise if they gained any power within the UK at any level , and it just so happens that those English Councils that they now have control of , since winning some Councils in the local English elections this year, is now witnessing Reform UK, at a council level, intending to adopt a American style Doge programme .
Doge means the department of government efficiency which sounds great until the wrong party are in charge and then , just like in America under Trump, this involves huge cuts to some essential services that then results in a loss of many jobs.
Reform UK in councils have said that “Reform have inherited a terrible state with high levels of debts and budgets under pressure” which is similar to what the current Labour UK government said when they took over from the Tories i.e. the “financial black hole” that they supposedly inherited (from the previous UK government. (this then supposedly prevents them from fulfilling much of their manifesto pledges and election campaign pledges)
So what is wrong with Reform UK seeking to make more efficiency in government and also Labour and the Tories in Scotland intending to adopt that (Doge) which Reform UK are also embracing.
Well on the 5 July it was reported that “Durham County Council plans to make changes to its Local Council Tax Reduction Scheme (CTRS), which currently allows low-earners to apply for a discount of up to 100% off their bill” but under these new plans with a Council , now run by Reform UK, this could now lead to its poorest residents being required to pay more towards their bill.
Reform councillor Nicola Lyons said the current scheme was one of the “most generous in the country” and the council was considering capping discounts as part of cost-saving efforts” ( so basically a Doge cutting exercise that would harm the most vulnerable, who yet again are those expected to see cuts made that impact them, just so that those who have wealth need not ‘take up the slack’ and help in them paying more to offset any local council deficits).
Reform UK had said formerly that “teams of software engineers, data analysts and forensic auditors would “visit and analyse” local authorities it controlled, starting with Kent County Council “.
Apparently “”The taskforce will identify ‘wasteful’ spending, increasing transparency and ensuring taxpayer money is spent solely on activity that benefits ‘local’ people” so then they , Reform UK, get to decide what is necessary or unnecessary via a ‘tech taskforce’ in supposdley identifying what is “wasteful” and so where the human element is removed from the equation. (as lives do not matter to a tech taskforce who are tasked with making savings that will then impact whom, the wealthy or the poorest, the able or the less able, the more resilient or the more vulnerable )?
A member of Reform UK “played down a warning from Nigel Farage that council staff working on diversity or climate change initiatives should seek “alternative careers” and said staff should not be concerned” .
However a Doge exercise in America that saw jobs being cut to some services that were considered essential have now been touted as being a reason for the lack of warning on the recent flooding disaster in Texas as Doge had cut the National Weather Service which was then said to have “significantly impaired the agency’s ability to provide accurate and timely forecasts” so then causing a greater loss of life due to a lack of warning prior to this disaster, as the bulk of staff who were “let go” were both specialised climate scientists as well as weather presenters.
So is a Musk style Doge a great template to follow for their, Reform party’s UK or indeed for a Sarwar led Scottish government that is also backed by a Tory party ‘led’ by Russell Findlay in Scotland and also then backed potentially by any Reform UK list MSP’s ?
Well in the wrong hands, as in with wrong UK or devolved government, then the answer is a resounding NO.
Farage and Reform UK are committed to defunding Net Zero projects and government initiatives yet the UK itself is subject to flooding’s in some areas and this has been reported to be because of climate change, but Farage is a denier of climate change as he instead intends to, like Trump, prioritise tax cuts for the wealthy instead.
Some voters here are under the (false) delusion that Reform UK will reform the UK just as they were under the (false) delusion that Labour would change the UK.
The truth is that both Reform UK and Labour, as well as the Tories also, only want to make cuts that impact the poorest and most vulnerable the most , while simultanously trying to ease or prevent any financial burden upon those more able to help , as in the richest within the UK.
So as a warning for the future……….
Don’t Opt to vote for any party (pretend or otherwise) led by Ghastly Egotistical party leaders……as you will be Denying both yourself and Others a Good and far better Environment ………..that will eventually lead to more Disasters , Obliteration , then Grief and then eventually human Extinction………that is the other far more factual and truthful interpretations of alternate meanings of the acronym DOGE.
Make it all stop , begin by starting to reach out to educate more voters here in Scotland (and elsewhere), so informing the masses (voters) who currently seem to be far far far too susceptible to trite slogans and also empty promises from those who use these deceptive measures in order to try to gain both power and wealth for themselves and also for those who fund them.
Greed is a bottomless pit…..and Farage and others like him are very very greedy.
(As are Labour, Tory & Lib Dem leaders as well).

To my above comment here’s another interesting fact linked to Labour in Scotland.
It was suggested that Tony Blair would try to help Labour win in Scotland next year.
Labour in Scotland, via Sarwar, has said he would be keen to adopt a “Musk style DOGE” and now today it is being reported that…….the war criminal Tory Blair via his institute is being implicated in………..
“The Tony Blair Institute (TBI) has been linked to a project widely condemned for proposing the ethnic cleansing of Gaza, involving a sweeping post war redevelopment of the besieged Strip”
Plans include a “Trump Riviera” and “infrastructure named after wealthy Gulf monarchs”, according to documents reviewed by the Financial Times that were revealed yesterday.
“The vision, outlined in a slide deck titled The Great Trust, was created by a group of Israeli businessmen with support from consultants at Boston Consulting Group (BCG)”.
Although TBI insists it “neither endorsed nor authored the slide“, “two of its staff members participated in discussions related to the initiative”
The TBI was founded by the former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair in 2016 to allegedly “promote global policy reform and combat extremism” .
Read the article online on this in the Middle East Eye entitled “Tony Blair Institute linked to Gaza plan condemned as ethnic cleansing: Report” dated 6 July.
I checked to see if this story was on the BBC website and I could not see any article relating to it, even though it was covered by a UK newspaper the FT.
So tell me who the H , within Scotland , would or could ever be persuaded by the likes of Tony Blair to vote for Labour next year…..other than those voters who are oblivious to the not so good stories linked to him and his former party and now allegedly to his new Institute.
