Police Scotland today, report:

I refer to your recent request for crime data, made in accordance with the Clery Act. Unfortunately, Police Scotland is unable to assist with your request.

Having reviewed the ‘Handbook for Campus Safety and Security Reporting’ from the US Department of Education, it is noted that the Act has strict recording and counting criteria and we are unable to compile data that would be directly comparable or applicable to the requirements of the Act.

This response is understandable but those making the request can, I feel sure, use this data to make the comparison themselves:

From How safe is your city? in the Complete University Guide for 2025:

Above, the safest University cities in England and Wales in terms of incidents per 1 000 population.

and the most dangerous, above.

So, what do you think the data for Scotland might reveal? The stereotypes are still with us, but:

In every English university town you are significantly more likely to be a victim of violent crime than in any Scottish one.

I haven’t see this reported anywhere.

  1. Totally OT John, but did you see this contrived horseshit being paraded on the BBC UK webpage to keep the Cook suit collection alive ? This contrived tripe from Kevin Keane https://archive.ph/6Jup9 betrays how little he knows as ‘ BBC Scotland environment correspondent ‘ with ” Such biodegradable waste breaks down to produce methane, a greenhouse gas that is around 28 times more potent than carbon dioxide ” – WTF does Kevin mean by POTENT or does he neither know nor care so long as he is paid ? – Could it be that methane lingers 28 times longer before theoretically decaying than CO2, or are we all missing the point much as over why James Cook returned from the USA having told a blatant lie?

    I have no problem whatever with David Balmer’s perspective, how it is presented by James Cook and Kevin Keane is another matter, the BBC’s selective ‘Nick Robinson’ version of ‘journalism’ comes to mind….
