Kevin McKenna and James Cook work together to humanise an ultra British Nationalist in Larkhall

Image – Gordon Terris – ‘Not having green at traffic lights is part of our proud culture, Kevin. That an Irish name McKenna?’

After reading I walked by-election streets and discovered why Reform are on rise, today Bob Lamont has these serious concerns.

This particular paragraph on Farage/Tice’s appeal to Scots made me wonder just how much McKenna had imbibed before writing it –

The party has sensed something new running beneath Scotland’s political currents. That growing numbers of voters think that the extremists are not to be found lurking in disadvantaged communities or in conspiracy chat-rooms, but at Holyrood and in a superannuated local government executive sector populated almost entirely by people who care nothing for working class people and who actively seek to dehumanise and invalidate them. That these voters had enough of being branded racist by groups and individuals who have damaged the cause of anti-racism by using it to pursue their own boutique agendas.

Anybody else see correlation between Phil Sim’s article leading the HMS James Cook’s ‘Scotland Politics’ webpage a day later and McKenna’s “boutique agendas”.

‘Feature writer of the year’ Kevin proclaims, as if that somehow exonerates him from ‘balance’, before having a bevvy….

  1. Four days ago Kevin McKenna tweeted this:

“In a race to the bottom of the barrel, the SNP are Reform UK are running neck and neck: my column in @heraldscotland.

*I think he meant to write “the SNP and Reform UK are running neck and neck” or rather he wants us to think that is the case…….

What he failed to tell people was that he, McKenna, was already at the “bottom of the barrel” looking up Ha Ha

He needs to make up his mind , as one moment he is associating with Reform UK in a walk about with their candidate for the by-election next week , when previously he had slated them in a tweet, in him inferring that they were those whom he saw as being of the lowest quality or lowest character (bottom of the barrel remark).

Though is he, McKenna, not seen to be a tad fickle and inconsistent in what and who he supports politically ( is he not a Labour man but he represents the worst kind of Labour man that coincidently matches the current awful kind of Labour men and women who sit as the main party and government at WM just now).

  2. Larkhall has a long standing reputation for sectarianism. No better place for Reform UK to parade their divisive British values.

I read about Subway having to paint their facade black because Larkhall hates the colour green. Even green traffic lights get knocked out. Here’s the Independent reporting this bizarre colour aversion in 2008

Scottish town where green is beyond the pale

    1. The traffic lights thing is a bit of hyperbole.

They do love their red white and blue however and love all things British establishment.

I mean, if they barely tolerate Catholicism, imagine how they feel about other religions.

The old joke that ends, “Aye but are you a catholic Muslim or a protestant one?”, comes to mind.

      1. Aye I bet they’d be first to complain if their NHS wasn’t able to treat them due to cuts or they had to pay for prescriptions or drink sh*tey water etc as is the case in their Engerland.

  3. Indeed, also is it not so typical of McKenna to present the SNP as those , like Reform UK, as being “in a race to the bottom of the barrel”, he is if nothing else boringly predictable , repetitive and clearly one who is opposed to the SNP as we see that in a majority of his articles, that he throws out, in a , checks notes, (supposed) Scottish newspaper, as all seem to have a similar #SNPBAD theme and tone.

BTW I guess that he, McKenna, also knew that Labour and the Tories were already in the gutter with their politics so they were then unable to join Reform UK “in a race to the bottom of the barrel” (where they as pro UK parties , and too their pro UK politics, all belong, as does most of the media in Scotland).

(Also) BTW the SNP were looking down into the barrel asking Kevin why is he, yet again, at the bottom of it , as one who is acting like a media fanboy, in him waiting for another ex Tory politician who now has defected to Reform UK reaching the bottom of the barrel to join him (Kevin) Ha Ha

Roll out the barrel , though Kevin and The Herald are not exactly a barrel of laughs are they, more really those who are ‘held over a barrel’ to continue to obey those who employ them, as in write in support of what the owners want them to write about (and also write positively about who they, the owners, support politically) , of course that then means they also need to write negatively about those whom the owners of the newspaper do not support politically e.g. the SNP , or it’s cheerio Hacks.

One can never bite the hand that feeds you, Kevin McKenna knows that, as does all of the others currently working within the pro UK media in Scotland too.

Vote SNP via a majority in all elections , if nothing else but to prove to the corrupt so called UK media here in Scotland that our votes cannot be bought and sold for pro UK political parties that they support , and whose intentions are most certainly not those that will benefit Scotland now or in the future , as they , as pro UK parties, are all far too distracted and obsessed with their UK State being sustained (aided by and benefitted from their parties plundering Scotland’s rich resources but not for us within Scotland that’s for sure)

  4. McKenna’s just another low end bought and sold scribbler who works for a low circulation rag with an online excuse to host clickbait. Who cares what he says.

  5. Good grief, as if what HMS James Cook was publishing as ‘Scotland Politics’ was not embarrassing enough, a ‘Shitehawk’ special now dominates the page with ” Parties jockey for power in Hamilton by-election ” https://archive.ph/S6fgz published in the wee small hours….

As to Glenn’s ” Many of the locals who stopped to chat with me in the centre of Hamilton were thoroughly fed up with politicians of all stripes “, I’d hazard a guess the numbers were tiny compared to those “thoroughly fed up with” BBC Scotland….

    1. I note that he, Campbell, links an article in the Daily Record where he writes:

“The SNP leader John Swinney has certainly acknowledged a third, red rosette wearing Horse in this race”.

My sense is that his comment came as something of a relief to Scottish Labour, who came second last time and expect to be regarded as the principal challenger to the SNP, who are defending the seat”.

Labour could certainly do with a win here“.

      Glenn for Labour.

Why he, Campbell, then also had to add this into this article on the website:

“The arithmetic already takes into account a series of SNP controversies over independence strategy, gender self-identification, a police investigation into party finances, leadership changes and the collapse of a power-sharing deal with the Greens”.

The “controversies” that have been linked to the SNP are insignificant compared to those we have seen linked with and also by both the Tory party and the Labour party.

The lack of a wide spread “Police investigation” that identifies and then takes action upon more senior Tory government ministers who were directly involved in the ‘Controversial’ PPE Fast Lane VIP Tory government contracts scandal that happened during Covid , is also a disgraceful omission, as a situation. (also various Tory MP’s n previous Tory governments being involved in sexual misconduct scandals and so either resigning or losing the Tory whip).

Then the “Police investigations” into one Labour MP , as in the one who punched a constituent, who was then charged and convicted and so then he resigned as an MP.

Also there is an ongoing investigation into a Labour MP who was also formerly the ‘Economic Secretary to the Treasure’ for Keir Starmer’s UK government, one Tulip Siddiq. An arrest warrant has now been issued by Bangladesh for her as part of investigations into corruption during Sheikh Hasina’s Premiership. (see her Wikipedia entry on other ‘incidents’ relating to her that are ‘controversial’. (she is still noted in the UK parliament website as being a Labour MP so she has not had the whip removed by her party ??????).

Glenn Campbell only wants the SNP to be seen as #Bad however reality proves that is not the case.

Check out the UK Parliament – “Allegations currently under investigation by the Commissioner” that name former Labour MP’s Andrew Gwynne (now an independent MP), Hamish Falconer and also Rachel Reeves and also there is a Lib Dem MP Charlie Maynard under investigation too.

      The BBC ….at it again.
