At PMQT yesterday, Sir Keir Starmer answered several questions about the Scottish government from Labour MPs from Scotland.

In one response he made a reference to 10,000 children living in temporary accommodation in Scotland.

It is telling that not one single Labour/Tory/Lib-Dem/Reform MP raised this homeless statistic for England.

It was published at the end of April 2025.

“As of New Year’s Eve, 2024, the statistics show that 127,890 households, including 165,510 children, were living in temporary accommodation (TA), unsure of when they would have a safe, secure, and permanent home.

This represents a 13.6 per cent increase on the same period in the year before and a 1.5 per cent increase on the previous quarter. The most common length of time that these families with children will spend in TA is over five years.”

Ed - The figure of 165 510 children in temporary accommodation in England, is per head, around 65% higher than in Scotland.

  1. To have 10,000 children living in temporary accommodation in Scotland is nothing to be proud of irrespective of comparison – I suspect most are acutely aware of the “small state” mentality which has so consumed UK political thinking since the late 1970s into the present, but no child should ever be homeless.

Neo liberal economics has much to answer for….

  2. Not sure all Labcons MP’s in Scotland sitting in their cosy high;ly paid seats down at Westminster, are from Scotland..some are parachuted into Scotland from other parts of their UK I think.

  3. Well spotted cuckooshoe, great post.

Whenever they , Labour MP’s from Scotland , promote what they say is terrible stats connected to Scotland , one can then be assured that in comparison to elsewhere within the UK there are far far worse stats , indeed there will be stats connected to elsewhere that proves Scotland is not as they present it at all, that is Scotland is neither the worse performing nor indeed the nation that has the worst stats within their UK.

Of course the Labour MP’s from Scotland are more focused on always declaring that, for them, ‘England is best’ , as part of their real role as British Nationalist Labour MP’s, which relies upon them being totally servile to Labour HQ first and foremost and then the so called but not really ‘Union’.

Occasionally Labour HQ makes exceptions for tactical reasons e.g. Brian Leishman.

So they allow people like Leishman to ‘go temporary rogue’ , that is , until the heat dies down upon a situation i.e. the situation of the Grangemouth closure.

Once the heat dies down on that ‘situation’ then he, Leishman, must then also do as other subservient MP’s do, as in those Labour MP’s who hail from Scotland, that is start to put the party first and foremost both in public and in private.

  4. Abused women do not get legal aid. They can end up homeless.

Asylum seekers cannot work. They can end up homeless.
