Another keynote speech by the First Minister announcement ignored – this time due to pressure of space for ‘Monkey addicted to marshmallows’ story

From Professor John Robertson OBA

BBC Scotland today, full of hospital ‘toxic’ culture, a road death, a dropped misogyny bill, hate speech in schools and the above monkey, were unable as always to find space to alert you to the First Minister’s keynote speech given to delegates of the Better Society Academy at The Social Hub in Glasgow today. You can hear it here:

or read it here:

https://www.gov.scot/publications/better-society-academy-first-ministers-speech/

Do the First Minister of Wales or the Prime Minister face such censorship when they plan to say things that voters might approve of?

Oh but if it’s a Keir Starmer speech or a Nigel Farage speech then stop the news and let’s go straight to them to hear what they have to say.

This might then give a wee clue to those peeps in Scotland who often state, why does the SNP not promote this , that and the next thing ?

    Where ?

We have a BritNat media who seeks to supress the SNP’s message while doing the opposite for the SNP’s political rivals.

As unlike the Labour party and their wealthy donors the SNP do not have many many thousands of pounds to spend on political propaganda on social media in the lead up to elections.

The National revealed on 26 April 2025 , in an ‘Exclusive’ , that:

“Scottish Labour have spent more than £20,000 running Facebook ads through a small page ‘hiding’ its party branding”

    “hiding it’s party branding” ?

Thus proving that they too, as in Labour in Scotland, are also aware that one cannot make a silk purse out of a Sow’s ear (of a party), as in who is now going to trust, believe in and vote for a Labour party that are surely now so well known as a party who are very much untrustworthy, less believable and so not worth voting for.

Plus now that Reform UK have performed well in the local English elections, that then will unfortunately mean that the media here in Scotland will have a welcome platform for Reform UK candidates right up until the 2026 Scottish elections.

The media are , if nothing else, way too boringly predictable in their actions. (the media sees no distinction between England and the whole of the UK as they assume that England and the UK are both the same.

Vote SNP in 2026 to show Labour and others that our democracy in Scotland is not for sale to the highest bidders.

BTW if you hear of anyone intending to vote for Reform UK then asks them to look at this:

Ask them to put “UK Parliament Nigel Farage” into their online search engine

What comes up is the UK Parliament website and it will be for Nigel Farage’s Parliamentary career.

Click on it and scroll down to registered interests and then click on that.

This will list all of the declared external earnings an MP has disclosed to parliament.

Farage’s earnings/gifts and Hospitality is under two pages and some of the amounts he has earned since becoming an MP are absolutely astounding and it proves that he is most certainly not a “Man of the people” (which is how he likes people to see him as, that is gullible people) but he is in fact very much a greedy and elite member of English society earning way way way too much for doing so very little.

So if the person who is thinking of voting Reform UK in 2026 also say that they would never ever vote Tory in any election , then surely seeing Farage’s external earnings proves that at heart he is still a Tory in all but party name.

  4. Too busy promoting Baroness Kennedy’s spiel about the Scottish government finding her misogyny law “too much of a headache” “in the face of “anti-woke” sentiment”, and Phil Sim’s absolutely bonkers “Will Scotland be next to feel rise of Reform UK?” https://archive.ph/LYTfw

As I’d commented on the numbers for the purported victory of “Reform” in Runcorn and Helmsby over on WGD, it’s worth repeating here for perspective :-

    Party, % of electorate 2024, % 2025

    Lab 31.58 17.88

    Tory 10.81 3.32

    Ref 9.55 17.89

    Combined Tory+Ref 20.36 21.21

Labour lost by the narrowest of margins because their support stayed away, and that without “Read my lips” Sarwar, Grangemouth, the most expensive leccy in Europe, and the ridiculous BBC Scotland to contend with…

    1. “Phil Sim’s absolutely bonkers “Will Scotland be next to feel rise of Reform UK”

Bob , I saw that too , as in saw it yesterday on their BBC website.

Immediately I thought……….and so it begins (again).

Sim writes ““Reform UK are the talk of the political steamie following their breakthrough results in England’s local elections”.

“Are they poised to make similar inroads in Scotland”?

The BBC , as per , attempting to try to influence opinion and not reflect it within Scotland.

I suspect that what we will now see via the BBC in Scotland is them producing a succession of articles like this to raise the profile of Reform UK here in Scotland.

Apparently that is because the unspoken but very much firm rule is that Scotland must always follow England.

The BBC in Scotland will now see these wins in local elections in England for Reform UK as a further justification in them now inviting someone from Reform UK onto their various TV and Radio news programmes, politics programmes and Debate programmes here in Scotland.

Call Kaye will do a talk in radio programme on ‘Can Reform UK make the same gains in Scotland as they did in England’ where the type of calls ‘accepted’ will be those supportive of Reform UK.

Though in all honesty they , the BBC in Scotland, would have done that anyway, as in give a platform to Reform UK in Scotland in the lead up to the 2026 Scottish elections, irrespective of the results last Thursday in England.

Of course with Reform UK getting that kind of publicity, assumed legitimacy and BritNat establishment acceptance then some voters in Scotland may yet again fall for the (bad) patter from Reform UK as they perform to the camera.

Though if people in Scotland want real reform and progress then people need to seriously consider who they give their first and second vote to in the Scottish elections in 2026.

The SNP as Scottish government already have enough opposition parties who carp from the sidelines, not because they , as an opposition, disagree with certain policies or decisions made by the SNP as the Scottish government , or indeed that they themselves have better policies or better ideas, but it is simply because that is what they are all programmed to do via their respective HQ’s all based down South in England.

This of course will be the exact same with Reform UK if they get any MSP’s elected in 2026 to our parliament in Scotland , as they will then just be an additional opposition party that also carps from the sidelines against the SNP, and so their respective HQ , which is also based down South in England , will also tell them what they need to do to comply with their HQ.

They all have the same kind of UK HQ’s whose ultimate political quest for supreme political power lies within the parliament in WM that is situated in London, England.

All the branch offices have to do in Scotland is to keep stirring the pot of hate and division and then, when applicable, they also try to deflect attention away from any negatives connected to their respective HQ party in them drawing attention onto their various contrived #SNPBAD regurgitated stories. (aided by their client media).

They, as a combined opposition, also try to cause disruption in our parliament .

Reform UK will not have anything positive to offer as a presence in our Scottish parliament, indeed it will be just another Tory party within our parliament (especially as most of their political choices as candidates are those who have defected from the Tory party to Reform UK).

The kind of vibe that exists with the majority of UK political parties is that it is ‘the survival of the fittest’ not in health but in wealth.

That kind of vibe is very substantial as both an opinion and as a belief with Reform UK.

Vote SNP in 2026 or we will see the same kind of mess happen in our Scottish parliament that will surely now happen in English councils .

Where with the public in England now having elected a pseudo protest party to take charge (Reform UK) in many English councils , that is in them having elected a pretend political party who are bereft of real policies other than harping on about immigrants, woke culture, cancel culture and stopping Net Zero and their leader, Farage, wanting more Private Healthcare as opposed to funding the NHS (and also them being against Harry & Meghan, apparently) then……….

I fear the English people will now have to reap what they have sown.

So a poor harvest will now ensue.

You get what you vote for and I suspect the public in England know not what they have really voted for , as Reform UK as a party , is one, via their HQ, that intends to enrich themselves and also enrich those who fund them , as opposed to them, as a party, generating real Reform anywhere within their UK.

  5. Just saw this perfect Tweet on ‘X’ by the journalist Owen Jones

“Labour’s disastrous plight is very easy to understand. The people who run the party were good at one thing: smashing the left. Destroying, not building, is their skill. They have no vision for the country. They’re in power because the Tories imploded, and no other reason”.

    That is exactly it.

Labour under Sir Keir Starmer got rid of the Left from the party, either expelling them or suspending them. (or silencing them – though was Brian Leishman given special HQ permission to be one who was raging against the machine in him being (supposdley) revolting Ha Ha).

They, Labour, only won the 2024 UK GE by default as the public wanted rid of the Tories as the UK government, so then the public assumed that in them (kind of) voting for Labour against the Tories , then that voting option would be the best way to get rid of the Tories.

Labour did not actually win per se, as in they did not win because they were wanted by the public, it was because they were assumed to be the best voting option that would successfully oust the Tories from power at WM.

The Tories lost it, as in they lost the last UK GE, as people voted against them and not for Labour.

The above sentence , as a point made, needs to be emphasised , hence their , Labour’s, curtailed Honeymoon period as a new UK government, they won because they were seen as the party most likely , as a party, to supplant the Tories, but their continued success would only be judged by how distinct they seemed compared to the Tories and also how much of an improvement they were as a UK government.

    #TheyLabourHaveFailed

Also they , Labour UK, promised “Change” in their GE campaign and the type of “Change” that they delivered was not what was anticipated or indeed now accepted by the public as an actual “change” for the better, compared to the previous (also) useless shower who were in power before them as the Tory UK government.

    Starmer is a dud.

The MP’s elected in Scotland are also duds.

All they seem to do , as MP’s who were elected in Scotland in 2024 , at both PMQ’s and Scottish Q’s at WM is praise England’s public services and slag off the Scottish public services and the SNP.

They , as MP’s elected in Scotland, do not hold their Labour HQ to account as their obedience to Labour HQ is bordering on slavish.

Both Labour and the Tories have paved the way for what is now a political success for Reform UK within England and neither Labour nor the Tories will assume taht they now have to have a rethink or any changes in what they as parties represent or what they promote in order to try to offset this surge in support for Reform UK in England.

Nope both of them will just double down and attempt to emulate the rhetoric and also the weak, futile and hate filled plans that Reform UK promote , thus they , Tories and Labour, will both as opposition parties to Reform UK , still be legitimising their, Reform UK’s, arguments and also Reform UK’s right to exist as a (pseudo) political party within their UK.

Vote SNP in 2026 or you will consign Scotland’s parliament to be the same political cesspit that matches the UK parliament at WM.
