How Labour betrayed Clyde shipbuilders and preferred corrupt Polish yards in 2005

By Liz S

Anas Sarwar tweeted this yesterday :

“So much for Stronger for Scotland…. More like SNP – Stronger for Poland. This is a huge blow to Scottish shipbuilding. Once again, jobs and investment going abroad on the SNP’s watch”

This was in relation to the news that “Ferguson ship yard misses out on new CaLMac Ferry order” as headlined on the BBC website, of course it was.

Yet I saw on WGD a commentator, Legerwood, add a comment and a link onto that site that stated this:

“Yet when Labour were in power, along with the LibDems, in Holyrood they awarded a contract for 2 boats to a Polish Yard and Fergusons lost out. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/4185082.stm

The BBC article stated :

A row has reopened over the Scottish Executive’s decision to award two shipbuilding contracts to a Polish yard earlier this month”.

“The SNP has obtained a letter which it claims proves the executive could have backed Ferguson of Port Glasgow”

Once again with Sarwar it is a case of “Do as I (we) say not as I (we) do’.

Of course we all know how Sarwar promised he and his Labour party would be “Stronger for Grangemouth refinery workers” and then he and his party let them down aka betrayed them after the 2024 GE.

This was a “huge blow” for those workers, and the Grangemouth area and also for “Scotland” too. As “once again” Labour let Scotland down under Sarwar’s “watch” as the so called Labour leader in Scotland.

Labour have been letting Scotland down for too long.

Vote SNP in 2026 as a first step to making it all stop.

  1. Yes , Grangemouth !

Ineos closes it down despite assurances before the GE from Anas ”Read my lips- we will save Grangemouth ” Sarwar , then receives an £800million bung from Starmer’s Labour to help build a facility …in Belgium … for Ineos !

It’s Change , Jim , but not as any moral person knows it !

    1. Uk English goverment are behind the assault on Scotland’s assets and closing of Grangemouth. The workers there are collateral, the UKEngGov do not give a sh*t about them.

  2. if it has been awarded to Ferguson’s the opposition would be up in arms about waste of public money on a yard that failed in their eyes to build ferries properly – two faced so and so’s

  3. But hang on , the headline is the “Scottish Executive ” awarded this contract for a new ferry to a Polish company , who is and what is the ” Scottish Executive ” ? The Scottish government website says the Scottish Executive was replaced by the Scottish government in 1999 ?

    1. The Labour LibDem coalition was called the Scottish Executive when Holyrood opened. That was its name until Mr Salmond became FM in2007 and announced the name change to Scots ish Government

  4. The wonderful new ferries built in Scotland putting money into the economy. They will save £Billions in fuel. They are subsidised for the islanders and tourists benefit. The dock charges are £10,000 a night in regular ports. Keeping jobs going. They pay for themselves in savings. The unionists Press and the unionist politicians are a disgrace. More vessels should be built in Scotland. Norway builds 100 vessels a year. Scotland could do the same.

Especially if Independent. Saving on Trident, nuclear and redundant weaponry. Unionist illegal war, causing mass migration. Trident dumped in Scotland. Without permission or authority.

The lying Labour unionists putting up claiming benefits will increase. The baby boomers will be gone. There will be a drop in the needs for ‘benefits’. Social structure. Historically women did not work. They were denied pension rights. Even in employment P/t. The old age pension is so low people need ‘additional benefits. If the pension was increased there would be less need for ‘benefits’ and less costs for administration costs. Nearly as high as the ‘benefits’. It would pay for itself. The old age pension 1/4 of the average income. One of the lowest in the world. Now cuts to disabled monies. Obscene. Increase in the Defence (attack) budget. Stop attacking Russia would save monies all round.

  5. As if we should be surprised at this approach by Sarwar after all that is what Unionists and especially Labour do continually to deflect any criticism that they are merely the wagging tail of the UK donkey Labour party.
