Snap poll – only 20% of Scots and 28% of SNP members support sending Scots ‘peacekeepers’ to Ukraine/Russian border – 55% of SNP members ‘strongly disagree’

CNN 8 March 2022, Sumy, Ukraine

Yes, I know, they’ve been a bit sneaky. He didn’t actually say he backed the idea but the damage is done if you don’t take the opportunity to oppose it. It’s what they do all the time and we lose votes.

By Professor John Robertson OBA, former Research Ethics Chair, UWS

I know, they’re only two wee ‘twitterpolls‘, self-selecting and so not proper polls. However, they’re still bigger and better than the teacher union one, used this morning by BBC Reporting Scotland Down, to suggest our classrooms are war zones too.

Whatever, in the absence of a proper poll, these two suggest that the SNP leadership really wants to ca’ canny on even appearing to be tolerant of the idea of sending Scots to a brutal borderline. Have they not learned from Helmand?

Any suggestion that we do not strongly disagree with the idea, like the 55% above, is a vote loser and an open goal for the media in the run-up to 2026.

  1. Especially since Putin has made it clear that any Foreign troops in Ukraine will be treated as combatants.

Starmer must know therefore that sending troops to Ukraine will not be a peacekeeping mission.

But will he do it anyway?

  2. I finally found Alasdair Ferguson’s article in the National, and the dozen others fanning the smoke in same pile of damp kindling, that was after all why Martin Guissler had asked the question in the first place, to enable context free headlines….

There’s no chance of such a mission until a peace agreement is in place with recognition of the peace-keeping role by both sides, but highly unlikely this year, even without further stupidity from Washington causing ructions…

  3. NATO and the whole West has suffered a catastrophic defeat at the hands of the Russian Federation both on the battlefield , diplomatically and economically with the EU on the verge of collapse and Trump talking about leaving the United Nations as he sees the writing on the wall as the Brics countries are rumoured to reform the UN else where as a single status non veto organisation. As regards troops in whatever is left in Ukraine after their total unconditional surrender the Russian Federation will decide that. The bleak future for the Western alliance politicians is Nuremberg style trials for crimes against humanity with UK politicians in the foreground. They totally lost the Globalist War and now face the consequences.

  4. The United Nations Security Council is the only organisation that can authorise legal peacekeeping forces. Russia has a veto on the UNSC. So there will be no peacekeeping forces unless Russia agrees. Any other forces on the battlefield in Ukraine will be regarded as enemy combatants and will be destroyed.

    Don’t volunteer is my advice.

  5. The US controls and funds NATO. US Defence bill. $760Billion a year. A third of all the world Defence (attack) spending.

Trident dumped in Scotland without authority. A danger to Scotland. Redundant weaponry ends up on the black market, causing more destruction and death.
