Glen Sannox sailing from Troon means the same bus/car, shorter train, journey times from Glasgow and fewer bad weather cancellations

The Herald today has this from a letter to the editor:

The excitement of the MV Glen Sannox’s arrival will rightly continue for some time for visitors and infrequent travellers as they explore the ferry’s thoughtfully designed passenger accommodation, but it has passed too quickly for those of us dependent on the ferry service.

The MV Glen Sannox is too large to fit into Ardrossan Harbour (islanders had suggested two smaller ferries would be better suited at time of design), so all sailings are via Troon Harbour. This means longer journey times and fewer sailings, making same-day journeys from Arran to the mainland on the Glen Sannox nearly impossible.

Apparently, according to a Bing search, Troon to Glasgow is 35 miles and 54 minutes by car. Ardrossan to Glasgow is also 35 miles but 52 minutes by car. Given that the Troon route is largely dualled and the Ardrossan route is largely single, I have my doubts about that. By train, it’s 1hr 20 from Ardrossan and only 40m from Troon.

So, lets just agree that Troon does not mean longer travel times bus, car or train.

Sailing time? Troon to Brodick is 25 minutes longer, to have a pint in the bar safely, due to the less choppy more sheltered waters.

As for fewer sailings, see this:

CalMac has switched its main Arran ferry sailing from Ardrossan to Troon for four days as strong winds are forecast. Ferries struggle to dock at Ardrossan’s main berth when the wind blows from the east, and an alternative berth has been permanently closed for safety reasons. The main berth at Ardrossan, the Arran berth, is susceptible to bad weather and CalMac had warned of possible disruption to services in the coming days. But after a trial on Wednesday, the ferry operator announced that passenger sailings could now continue using Troon, about 20 miles further south, as an alternative harbour.

Finally, why is she a bigger ferry? So the islanders can still get on in the summer rush?

  1. The Herald seems to attract and promote those with anti-independence, and Scottish Government, anti-SNP and anti-Scottish views.

just another unionist rag pretending to be Scottish.

  2. Ferries do seem to be their, the media’s, ‘Go To’ subject which they revisit far too often to try and promote as being , what they state , a supposed prime example of an SNP controlled SG’s incompetence.

Yet the majority of people within Scotland are mostly suffering from what has turned out to be a clearly very incompetent Labour controlled new UK government, which is pretty much a continuation of what we all had to endure under the previous various UK governments that were controlled by the Tory party.

Are these repetitive attacks by the media , using Ferries as red Herrings , all just an excuse to remove or minimise the serious stories impacting Scotland , which currently exemplify the betrayal of Labour UK , such as the significant story relating to Grangemouth.

The BBC website added an article yesterday on “Grangemouth refinery staff sent redundancy letters”.

Yesterday it was added onto their Scottish page and their Scottish Politics page on their website.

It is currently now the 9th story on their main Scottish page (it was the 8th story 40 minutes ago on this page , so it is rapidly descending) and it is the 5th story on their Scottish Politics page, after only being added as a story yesterday , in what is a very much topical story in Scotland , which I also suspect will soon no longer be on the Scottish pages of their website at all.

The content of this story on Grangemouth fails to mention the new Labour MP for that area, Brian Leishman, yet he was doing the media rounds yesterday and where on STV News he said this ” Labour leadership said in the GE campaign we will, and I quote, ‘Step in, invest hundreds of millions of pounds into Grangemouth and build Grangemouth for the future, we’ll step in and save jobs’ that was just rhetoric. Where is delivery” ?

Of course Brian also stated this same “Rhetoric” himself and indeed he tweeted at the time, as in prior to the 2024 GE, that the SNP had done nothing and that his party , Labour, would save and also invest millions in Grangemouth, so he too was willing to promote this same spiel as the Labour leadership in order to win the seat for himself and for the Labour party in the 2024 GE.

Now the BBC article , as I stated above, failed to note the actual MP for Grangemouth, or indeed seek any quote from him in their article on “redundancy letters being issued to some workers”, as in those same workers within his constituency, which is extremely remiss of them , or a deliberate tactic considering he, Brian Leishman, is now mouthing off about the Labour leadership (plural as in both the UK Labour leader and also the Scottish Labour leader) betrayal upon Grangemouth.

There is also no mention in this article of Anas Sarwar, who together with Brian Leishman in a video prior to the 2024 GE, also promoted the same “Rhetoric” that Grangemouth would be safe in the future with a Labour UK government and that millions would be invested into it.

However the BBC article did manage to include a comment from the Unite Union where it was stated that “The Unite union said the move was a “national disgrace” and accused the UK and Scottish governments of being “missing in action” as the closure takes effect”

So once again the SG is dragged into what is very much only a Labour instigated mess and a Labour betrayal by the Labour party both here in Scotland and also by their colleagues in the UK on Grangemouth.

The Unite Union , or indeed the BBC themselves, made no mention in this article of Labour’s specific pledges that they made to the Grangemouth workers in the 2024 GE campaign, if the Union did comment upon this , then this BBC article did not include those comments , which many people regard to be, including the Labour MP for the area, both Labour in Scotland and the UK’s betrayal of Grangemouth post the 2024 GE.

The BBC article also managed to get a quote from the SG Deputy leader, the SNP MSP Kate Forbes, yet the Labour party , and the Labour leader in Scotland, who all made many promises and assurances to these Grangemouth workers prior to the 2024 GE were not sought by the BBC for any comment in this article.

So Labour are yet again not being challenged by the BBC, so basically they are again being protected by the BBC , and also they are not being asked to or being made to apologise for making all of those false and empty promises to these workers prior to the 2024 GE.

Indeed it now seems these pledges to Grangemouth workers were only made by Labour to win the seat at the 2024 GE, something the BBC will never acknowledge as a fact within any article or news report, as their only mission is to try and promote everything as being either the SNP SG having joint blame with the various UK governments or preferably the sole blame lying only with the SNP SG.

This is not the actual news or the full version of the news where we are by the BBC, but instead it is very much a British version of the news, mostly with redactions that seeks to protect pro UK political parties while also trying to maximise the damage for the SNP politically.

The BBC needs and wants us to believe that what they deliver as news is the real news where we are, but it is really just mostly a BBC version of British Nationalist news that tries to limit any political or constitutional damage to the UK state , while doing the opposite for Scottish independence and those parties supportive of it.

That is in them, the BBC, trying to inflict the most damage upon Scottish independence in them trying to prevent it ever being seen as a just , legitimate and worthy cause and also too them trying to inflict political damage upon parties like the SNP and the Green party who support Scottish independence.

It is now 12.33pm and upon checking the BBC website again on the Scottish pages I see that this story “Grangemouth refinery staff sent redundancy letters” has now been removed as one of the top articles on their main Scottish page , as it now is just added as an article in ‘News from around Scotland’ (last article, so it will disappear soon) and it has also now been totally removed from their Scottish Politics page.

No worries though as the “‘No cat ban in Scotland’, John Swinney confirms” is still on their Scottish Politics page”.

Yet again another example that offers proof that the BBC is not here for us in Scotland but it is only a propaganda tool that acts on behalf of the UK state and those parties who support it, which includes , as a combined support , the BBC too.

  3. Regarding my above comment, upon re-reading this article on the BBC website about “Grangemouth refinery staff sent redundancy letters”, I note that I missed this beauty of a lie , or if I am being generous , some misinformation, that was also in this article, where there was a quote by a spokesperson from the UK government , who stated that “Before July, there was no overall plan for the future of the Grangemouth refinery”.

    What ?

Tell that to Brian Leishman the new Labour MP for this constituency and also tell that to the Grangemouth workers and the Grangemouth constituents, as they will all tell you that the “overall plan for the future of the Grangemouth refinery” was supposed to be that millions was to be invested in it by a newly elected UK Labour government to ensure the future of Grangemouth was secure for those who worked there, and also for the benefit and security of the constituency.

So this was promoted “before July” as part of Labour in Scotland’s GE campaign.

Sarwar promoted this in his 2024 GE campaign on behalf of the Labour UK party here in Scotland, as did Brian Leishman their Labour candidate , who is now the Labour MP for that area.

Perhaps this ‘UK government spokesperson’ was oblivious to these pledges being made by Sarwar and Leishman prior to the UK GE, as in “before July” , or he is either pretending , is lying or is deliberately completely ignoring what was promised (take your pick) to Grangemouth workers by Labour , prior to the 2024 GE, as in “before July”.

  4. Unite sponsored Lieshman’s GE campaign to the tune of £7500. This info is publicly available on the register of MP’s interests.

I rescinded my union membership because I refuse to support organisations who don’t fight for Indy.

  5. It has been widely accepted for quite some time, globally, that ferries are going to have to be larger to cope with the increased frequency and severity of storms caused by climate change.

That and the long delays to this particular ferry being delivered for service should have left sufficient time to,at least, start on terminal modifications.

The outrage from the media in Scotland should be directed at the company ownership of the existing facility…..why are they not prepared?
