Labour MP attacks her ‘local’ A&E in Fife, Scotland, despite it treating 3 000 patients per month more within the target time than her preferred local A&E in Croydon, England

By Professor John Robertson OBA

Yesterday on BBC Politics Scotland, from Westminster (see the backdrop), Melanie Ward, Scottish Labour MP for Cowdenbeath and Kirkcaldy joined the horde of ‘Scottish’ Labour MPs serving up and humiliating their local communities in the service of the UK Labour Party.

From the local Courier in May 2024:

A Palestine medical charity boss based in London has been picked to stand for Labour in the Cowdenbeath and Kirkcaldy seat at the next election. Melanie Ward was chosen to replace disgraced candidate Wilma Brown, who was ditched by the party after she liked “racist” posts on social media.1

Only 6 months earlier, Labour List had:

Medical Aid for Palestinians chief executive Melanie Ward has joined the selection race in Beckenham and Penge, for which applications close today at midday. She has been backed by the Labour Campaign for International Development.2

Living in London, she must have been disappointed to have to get to Fife.

So, in November 2024, her constituency A&E, at the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy did 64.5% in 4 hours.3

The Beckenham and Penge local A&E at Croydon NHS trust managed only 59.6% within 4 hours but NHS England overall averaged only 55.3%.4

The Victoria had 5 400 A&E admissions in November 2024, so that 4.9% lead over Croydon means 265 patients treated within the target, in Fife, who would have had to wait longer if the misfortune to live in Croydon. Over a year, that’s 3 180.

  1. Her bio raises the question , where is her ”local A&E ” when she lives in London , has her previous career in London … Could she even find an A&E in Fife ?

  4. The Tories cut NHS funding. It was not increased for 14 years. Unionist policies. Covid funding was £270Billion over two years. £Billions lost on fraudulently unscrutinised contracts.

NHS funding increasing £22Billion. Labour has cut the winter fuel payment £1.5Billion. Increasing hospital admissions.

  6. Firstly sorry for this rather belated comment on the above as I wanted to get confirmation from a family member who has worked in the VIc’s A&E for many years. What Ward is referring to is not a makeshift ward but a Triage unit which has been there since wee Gordie insisted the new replacement hospital was to be built in the town and is used mainly only during the busiest period during the day by Ambulance crew/patients.
Since then the SNP have funded a large additional Orthopedic wing which is now recognised as one of the best/fastest hospitals in the UK for knee/hip replacement surgery and alongside the equally recognised Maternity unit. Just to let you and other followers in essence she is talking sh*t

    1. My MP doesn’t seem to like to reply to emails either and has now shut down his constituency office so contacting him might prove somewhat difficult. Not that I’m likely to want to any time soon as he doesn’t seem to be interested in Scottish independence these days!
