Royal Yacht cost nearly half a billion to repair and had 8 times as many crew, for 250 guests, no cars or HGVs, as the MV Glen Sannox will have to look after 852 passengers, 127 cars and 16 HGVs

Thanks to cuckooshoe and one of our anonymouses, for this.

In Business Insider, November 10th 2022, we read that the Royal Yacht Britannia cost the taxpayer £11 million per year to maintain from 1953 to 1997, £484 million!

The 126m vessel had 271 crew members for up to 250 guests, no cars and no HGVs.

The 102m MV Glen Sannox will have 32 crew members for 852 passengers, 127 cars and 16 HGVs.

  1. But , just like Trident , how could we have survived without a Royal Yacht ?

The UK NEEDS these essential cosmetic cod pieces to make the World look up to us ! To show them that WE ARE GREAT ! LoL !

  2. wonder what the 2 UK’s bestest, biggest, mostest, fastest (non) aircraft carriers cost to maintain……?

Hw many years behind and how many billions?

have they ever managed to achieve a whole “at sea” mission without being towed home?

    na thought not.

  3. 06-01-25 And just to highlight how desperate the Herald has become on its attempts to blacken Cal Mac.

We have under the category of CALMAC FERRIES, the grim news that “More than 80 schools shut as freezing weather causes travel disruption”

Don’t know, but it looks like yet another Herald fairy story to me..
