First pupils who don’t sit maths fail it, now bigger ferry to help with summer demand emits more than smaller one which islanders moaned about – BBC Scotland News goes full steam up a creek

Two days ago BBC Scotland had ‘Worrying’ 40% of Scottish pupils passed maths’ (Now removed from web!) then we discovered elsewhere that 68% of those who actually sat it, had passed.

Today, we hear:

CalMac’s new Arran ferry has a bigger [one third] carbon footprint than the diesel vessel that usually serves the route.

At the end of the report we hear that ‘it’s wrong to compare them because Glenn Sannox is a bigger vessel!

How much bigger is the MV Glen Sannox than the MV Caledonian Isles?

It takes more than a third extra vehicles, 127 to 90, to cope with the huge summer demand, which in recent years, has resulted in delayed journeys for many holiday makers and endless negative media reports based on comments from islanders recently arrived from, say, Buckinghamshire.

Can CalMac win? Will BBC Scotland grow up?

  1. From the BBC Scotland article “Glen Sannox: A view from the inside” from June 2023..

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-west-65807663.amp

“With its choice of LNG or MGO fuel, main and auxiliary engines, David Tydeman says there are 16 different permutations for powering Glen Sannox.”

    it’s also versatile

“The cargo capacity (known as deadweight) in the specification was about 25% higher than for previous CalMac vessels of a similar size – yet the ship was also required to have a shallow draught (the amount of hull below the waterline) so it could navigate shallow harbours.”

  2. The members of the unionist media are all praying earnestly for some problem associated with the Glen Sannox.

They are also hostile to climate protection actions – it is ‘red tape’ to be ‘slashed’ – but, if they can use climate protection to attack the Scottish Government then so be it.

The increased vehicle carrying capacity means more pollution on the islands due to more cars. Perhaps only vehicles which are climate compliant should be allowed on the ferry. if there were such a rule then the hacks would be reporting that the (in)hospitality industry will be ‘devastated’.

  3. ” Two days ago BBC Scotland had ‘Worrying’ 40% of Scottish pupils passed maths’ (Now removed from web!)..” – Not so John, they demote the story quickly when it comes under scrutiny/criticism, but it’s still there… Google the headline and up pops https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cm2vk9gm4e0o along with the usual mafia and syndications…..

I think it was McKenna in the Herald a few days back bemoaning the Sannox having to be refuelled with LNG by road tanker whilst at Troon, there’s no dual-fuel like an old dual fuel… – My guess would that will be the media mafia’s next line of attack….

  4. I found these quite interesting, not specific to Scotland but a worthwhile read about the carbon footprint of ferries and cruise ships, something that the “Scottish” BBC should really have mentioned to put things into perspective……in other words this is a non story unionist propaganda piece of garbage journalism which shows them for what they are are…pro Union for England and anti Scottish and anti Scottish Government when it is the SNP!!!……https://ferrygogo.co.uk/ferry-carbon-footprint/ and….https://thrustcarbon.com/insights/how-to-calculate-emissions-from-a-ferry-journey

  5. The BBC and statistics. They must have failed maths. They cannot count or read a balance sheet. A complete and utter failure. Total embarrassment. The new ferries will save £Billions in fuel.
