Lib Dems find Scottish Nurses lose 3 days a year to mental health problems, fewer than UK average of 8

In another of their many, waste-of-public-funds-to-dig-dirt-on-SNP, freedom of information requests, the Lib Dems in the Daily Record on Boxing Day:

More than 700,000 days of nursing and midwifery staff time have been lost due to mental ill health since 2020, according to figures obtained by the Scottish Lib Dems. Freedom of information data showed 762,975 days were lost across the 14 territorial health boards. NHS Lanarkshire had the highest total in 2023/24, at 24,342 days lost.

There are 65 270 nurses and midwives employed by NHS Scotland.

Most UK full-time employees work around 260 days per year.

So Scotland’s nurses and midwives do around 260 times 65 270 or 16 million 970 thousand and 2 hundred shifts per year. Since 2020, 4 years ago, that’s 67 million 880 thousand and 8 hundred

That 762,975 is already starting to look a bit small, isn’t it?

I wonder what percentage is that?

1.12%, around 3 days, lost to mental health problems.

Is that a high percentage?

The UK average is ‘21.1 days for Stress, depression or anxiety’ per year. 8% of 260 days

  2. I had the unpleasant experience of hearing this obnoxious nonentity on the radio yesterday. An anti SNP diatribe about access to mental health help for youngsters being worse over the last 17 years etc etc etc, all due to ‘the SNP’. Pitiful.
    He sounded under the influence of drink or/and drugs.
    As I am glad to say, never had the missfortune to have heard him speak before, I don’t know if this is normal. or not.

    1. Not so sure he’d win Alex, it’s a wide field of competition in Scotland for such an ‘accolade’ including those over whom the electorate have no real or any say, such as List candidates or Political Editors…
