Scotland’s media ignore massive increase in criminal convictions including a 103% increase in rape convictions only two years after pandemic constraints end

By Professor John Robertson OBA

From Criminal Proceedings in Scotland 2022-23, published yesterday, we can see that there were 68 067 people convicted of a criminal offence in Scotland in 2022/2023 (latest figures), 59.8% up from the 2020/2021 figure of 42 614.

Reassuringly, for serious crimes dealt with in the High Court, the figure was 733, almost double the 2020/2021 figure of 375 and up from the previous high, in 2014 of 702.

Also reassuring, there was a 29% increase on the 2014 figure for Sexual crimes including a 63% increase from 2014, in people proceeded against for rape and attempted rape and a 108% increase in convictions for these.

Scotland’s media are not reporting this important news for fear of having you think the Scottish Government is doing nae bad and then, heave forfend, think maybe we could run our own country.

Last year BBC Scotland had

Warning Scotland’s court backlogs could take years to clear

and

Lawyers condemn ‘disgraceful’ criminal trial delays

Corrections? Aye right.

  1. “pandemic constraints”

Sorry did you not know that “pandemic constraints” were not applicable for the Scottish government.

Mitigating circumstances, global situations and blame lying with others is only applicable for both the UK and the Welsh governments, past and present.

In Scotland no such alternate reasons (or excuses) are to ever be considered as applicable for our Scottish government, also promoted by others as only ever being identified as the SNP government or rather the #SNPBAD government.

Please ‘get with the programme’ and stop straying as that could lead some voters in Scotland into thinking that the “Scottish Government” could indeed successfully be able to “run our own country” as opposed to what the various UK governments are trying to do to Scotland , as in trying to ‘Run it down’.

      1. And they will go on using it because their intention is to destroy the self respect Scottish people have.

What I think it shows is their own self loathing.

  2. Talking of “criminals” the BBC website has this as their second top story on their main Scotland page (and not WASPI women which is now the 5th story on their main Scotland page ).

“The retailers living in fear of violent shoplifters”

Apparently in the posh area of Morningside in Edinburgh “Shop staff in an upmarket Edinburgh neighbourhood say they have fears for their safety after attacks by shoplifters

But guess what is included in this BBC article.

    Yep #SNPBAD.

As one shop owner stated this:

“The people who are doing this have realised policing isn’t as effective as it once was, not because police aren’t trying to do the best they can – they are all dedicated but they don’t have the resource.

“The priorities of the Scottish government haven’t been policing.”

The good old BBC in Scotland once again managing to remove what is the current big political story just now, as in Labour’s betrayal of WASPI women, to replace it with a #SNPBAD political story. (or rather an attempt at another #SNPBAD story).

Wow that shop owner did a great job in politicising something in his attempt to try to disadvantage the SNP as the Scottish government and the BBC were , as per, only too happy to oblige him (which is their usual modus operandi in Scotland).

Meanwhile governments and police resources in England and Wales and also crimes like attacks on shopkeepers are what ?

Perfect UK and Welsh governments and too ample police resources ?

    I think not.

Attacks on shopkeepers are non existent as types of crimes in England and Wales ?

    I also think not.

BTW they, BBC on their Scotland page, also have an article on “MSPs back plans to end ‘double-jobbing”

Where “MSPs will be barred from sitting as MPs or members of the House of Lords after the Scottish Parliament voted in favour of plans to outlaw so-called dual mandates.”

However as MSM Monitor tweeted “How is it Katy Clark can be a member of the House of Lords as well as a member of the Scottish parliament? Didn’t the recent Holyrood vote ban this”?

    How indeed.

    1. Probably being put up to do this, paid ops. My neighbours only a few weeks back were saying they’d read that in England’s cities, not sure where exactly, violent shop lifters are terrorising shop keepers and communities. Sounds like vigilante stuff…looks like it’s been imported into Scotland? Like the English drugs gangs invading Scottish cities and towns, it’s all by design. It could get worse, false flag stuff, put nothing whatsoever past the BritEng state in keeping Scotland shackled and plans in ousting the SNP at Holyrood by hook or by crook.

  3. Apologies O/T

    WM PMQ’s.

Another Labour MP elected in Scotland doing the job that he knows was expected of him if elected as an MP in Scotland to sit in WM and that was only to constantly criticise the SNP as the Scottish government.

The Tories also did this when their UK party were in power.

New Labour MP John Grady, MP for Glasgow East , stood up at PM Q’s NOT to ask a Q of the PM but instead stood up to berate the SNP as the Scottish government upon the Scottish NHS.

In what was an obvious deflection manoeuvre to try and deflect attention away from Labour UK’s gross betrayal of the WASPI women and so attempt to gain some undeserved support for Labour in Scotland in the up and coming Scottish elections, where polls currently show Labour are trailing behind the SNP.

A futile attempt and also a way too obvious one , where formerly we witnessed the Tories also doing this too when their UK party were the previous UK government, so no “Change” there then with Labour.

Unfortunately our politically compromised pro UK media in Scotland will not also equate this as an attempt at deflection by this newly elected Labour MP but instead will reinforce his false message that it is only the Scottish NHS that is supposdley in the worse state, even though other media within the UK report on both the English & Welsh NHS both being in a extremely dire position.

If more people are not , like many of us on here , absolutely ragin at this daily WM circus with the very weak, way too contrived and very much tactical contributions from Labour MP’s who have been elected in Scotland as MP’s , who then as MP’s fail to stand up for Scotland, but instead they think that in them being elected all they then have to do as an MP is to repeat constantly #SNPBAD in the HOC , then I wonder what will really make you mad and finally sit up and pay attention !
