In the Guardian today:
‘Obscene’: Anger after cost of King Charles’s coronation revealed. The coronation of King Charles in May 2023 cost taxpayers at least £72m, official figures have revealed. The cost of policing the ceremony was £21.7m, with a further £50.3m in costs racked up by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2024/nov/21/obscene-anger-after-cost-of-king-charless-coronation-revealed
Typically in a press report, the ‘anger‘ is just from the tiny protest group – Republic. No opinion poll is referred to, for the obvious reason that they all indicate continuing support for the monarchy, other than in one place.
In January this year, YouGov had:
45% across the UK prefer a monarchy to an elected head of state, at 31% and with don’t knows at 24%.
In Scotland, the figures were 33, 43 and 24.
Only the South had 50% for Charlie and his crew.

The decline since the handover from his mum? In June 22, also from the same pollster, YouGov, this:

Despite the unique lack of support in Scotland, only the Greens and Scottish Socialist Party are explicitly, republican.
The Scottish perspective is not the result of the recent arrival of a less popular monarch in King Charles 3.
In March 2021:
In a poll by JL Partners, after Harry and Meghan’s interview with Oprah Winfrey, 52% of Scots agree that the monarchy should be abolished with only 28% disagreeing. For the UK as a whole only 29% agreed with abolition and 50% disagreed.
Northern Ireland and London had 33% for abolition but still a majority for retention and all other parts of the UK were strongly opposed to abolition.

https://projectarbroath.scot/ explains why he’s not king of Scotland anyway…there’s no such thing and he can’t be king of Scots because he hasn’t taken the Oath of Accession required under Scots law, preserved within the Treaty of Union

Labour are making the public, same ones who elected them, pay for the so called ‘financial black hole’ that Labour says exists in the public finances , while Labour, as the new UK government, are also happy to continue to pander to royalty sponging off the public’s taxes.
The recent revelation on a £45 million increase for the royal family and then, as per this article, the costs of King Charles coronation also saw another eye watering amount being wasted on pomp and ceremony to pander to his , Charles, ego and his sense of superiority within his so called kingdom.
Then we had the recent Channel 4 documentary entitled “The King, The Prince and their secret millions” which exposed how much money they, royalty, gain from their elevated status as those who own so (too) much land.
The documentary revealed how the Royal Family has received millions of pounds of income in rent from the NHS, schools and the armed forces , where the private estates of King Charles and Prince William holds contracts with public bodies and charities.
To try and offset any criticism against the royal family in respect to this unjust system and also their vast wealth we often see some of the media try to present the supposed ‘caring’ side of some royals.
Where recently there was another documentary on Prince William entitled “We can end Homelessness” which was somewhat ironic when you consider the amount of homes he and his family owns. Not just ordinary homes but quite substantial and opulent homes . So what does he expect us , as in his Father’s so called subjects, to do as he states “We can end homelessness” ?
Then we have also heard that on his birthday King Charles opened a new hub in south-east London as part of his project to distribute surplus produce to people in food poverty. Perhaps he, Charles, could ask Prince William to take on a further supposed ‘quest’ in trying to end food poverty in their UK, while they as royalty continue to dine on the finest food and drink the finest wines.
As so called Royal ‘subjects’ suffer many of life’s hardships as UK citizens, they as so called Royal ‘subjects’ will also have to endure these hardships while tolerating a class system where others, like royalty , will never ever have to do without throughout their lives within the UK.
In fact in royal visits to certain areas within the UK , many of them as so called royal ‘subjects’ will come out to cheer and wave their flags at these pampered individuals.
While allowing them , as royalty, to continue to con them into thinking that they, as royals , are assets to their UK, and so worth continuing to subsidise via their public taxes.
(To also include the vast private wealth royalty has accumulated and also the various scandals that they, royalty, never seem to receive an appropriate punishment or consequence from).
We also had royalty in the past, via the Queen, interfering in the last independence Referendum campaign with what was referred to as being a rare comment where she said that we in Scotland “should think carefully about the future”.
I truly wish that more of us had thought far more carefully about our future , then perhaps we would not have had to endure ten years of suffering as part of the UK (to include being dragged out of the EU that we, Scotland, voted to remain in as a country).
We also had it reported that in 2021 Gordon brown visited Prince William at Holyrood palace seeking both his help and his wife’s help in his, Brown’s, campaign to keep Scotland in the UK.
Prince William later gave a speech describing how Scotland had shaped him, and he praised its people and values. (more conning and collusion with others within the UK establishment from the royal family – who , as royalty, are also part of the UK establishment).
Yes we, Scotland, apparently “shaped him” however in Football sporting competitions his allegiance is not with us but instead is with another country in his UK, as in England. So he is obviously not that grateful that Scotland “shaped him” .
(Or rather he, William, did his bit for Gordon Brown’s campaign to try to keep Scotland within their UK in saying what he did only after meeting with Gordon Brown).
Charles is not my King and I seriously hope that others in Scotland will “think carefully about the future” in a future independent Scotland and then also decide that his son, William, is also not one that they wish to be their King either.
