Anas Sarwar gets ‘Herald Scottish Politician of the Year’ despite his favourability rating falling 20 points to well below John Swinney and after taking Labour down 14 points to below the SNP

From the Herald today:

Anas Sarwar has been named The Herald Scottish Politician of the Year in recognition of his work securing Scottish Labour’s stunning result at the General Election. The party returned 37 MPs, a huge jump on the one won in 2019.

How are things going with that?

In the short time since the General Election in July 2024, support for Scottish Labour has plummeted from as high as 37% just before it, to 23% in October.

This suggests that Anas Sarwar has diddly chance of becoming the next First Minister.

According to YouGov, he is currently popular with only 15% of Scots: https://yougov.co.uk/topics/politics/explore/public_figure/Anas_Sarwar

An Ipsos poll in September 2024, had:

Though their net favourability ratings are still in the negatives at around -11 each, First Minister John Swinney and Deputy First Minister Kate Forbes came out as the best-rated politicians. In comparison, Prime Minister Starmer scored -23, dropping by 6.5 since March. Sarwar fell by 4.5 to -16 over the same period. https://www.holyrood.com/news/view,blow-for-labour-as-popularity-falls-in-scotland-after-general-election

Dud of the year more like?

  1. Credit where it’s due !

In these hard times The Herald is making a genuine attempt to raise our spirits by making us laugh ( except with Camley’s unfunny cartoons ! ) . This is Sooo funny – Sarwar Politician of the Year AND Ian Murray as Best Scot at Westminster . Ha ! Ha!

Keep it up Herald – we needed a laugh !

  2. All part of the media establishment’s quest to try and get Labour elected as the next Scottish (INO) government.

The Herald knows full well that those people in Scotland who voted Labour in the GE did not vote FOR Labour but instead they voted AGAINST the Tories remaining as the UK government.

So his , Sarwar’s, supposed ‘achievement’ in 37 Labour MP’s being elected in Scotland in the GE , was not anything to do with him ‘Changing’ the minds of many within Scotland , but instead it was some of the Scottish public making a wrong decision, in them allowing themselves to (yet again) be conned by Labour, into them thinking that their votes in Scotland were crucial in a UK election as to determining which party would be the next UK government.

Now hopefully some of these same people who voted Labour in Scotland in the GE may have now changed their minds as they realise that there is not really that much which divides Labour from the Tories as far as policies are concerned.

As to Ian Murray winning “Best Scot at WM” that follows on from the previous Tory SOS for ‘Scotland’ , Alister Jack , also having won this same category in a previous year .

Thus confirming that The Herald very much supports WM’s man in Scotland far more than what is falsely named as being Scotland’s man in WM , as a supposed Secretary of State for our country.

( A surplus position but also an essential part of the UK government’s strategy in continuing to treat Scotland as a colony of their UK , which includes them stealing powers and money away from our democratically elected Scottish government).

The Herald newspaper wins yet again the ‘Fake ‘Scottish’ newspaper of the year” award aka ‘Another British propaganda newspaper pretending to be Scottish but who act against Scotland’s best interests as their only allegiance lies elsewhere with others within another country within their UK (as in with England and the English government at WM).

Mind you they, The Herald, have stiff competition in winning ‘Fake Scottish newspaper of the year’ do they not. (too many newspaper titles to list).

Did the BBC win The Herald’s category for best ‘Political TV news coverage in Scotland’ (they would if that were a category in their annual awards, as trolling us, is it seems, an art form that The Herald and others like them are trying to master in their constant quest to try and stop support for independence increasing within Scotland).

Stopping independence is the bottom line in all that they as a media say , do and write about within Scotland (and elsewhere) and it is also the exact same for all of the opposition politicians too.

(BTW I do know that SNP Politicians have won in these Herald political awards in previous years, but that was them winning, as politicians , in an unavoidable action that The Herald had to take/make. Also it was based upon real success and real political achievements and not contrived as we now see , with what will hopefully be a failed attempt to try to elevate Labour & Sarwar , as they, The Herald, are attempting to elevate them within Scotland to try and help them win in the Scottish elections in 2026).

  3. Whilst there might be some justification in Anas Sarwar given the GE results this year, there is non whatsoever for Ian Murray as Best Scot in Westminster – really!

Sorry Herald, you are insulting the intelligence of your remaining readership with that one.

Ah but based on what he, Sarwar, promised prior to the GE i.e. “Change”, and then based on what was actually not delivered by Labour UK after the GE i.e. “Change” , would the award not have been more justified if it were an award under the category of ‘Lying politician of the year’ ?

      1. I am happy to concede that Sarwar is a complete dud. However this is the Herald, where accuracy as regards reporting on Labour / Tories activities and sound bites is merely a concept.

The Herald has been quite actively promoting Anas Sarwar over many months, whereas Ian Murray could well be a mint for all the exposure he has had in the Herald.

Nope, the Herald Award was only ever going to be given to Labour and Anas was their poster boy. The fact that Labour won the GE was all that was required to cement his award.

        Still ridiculous right enough.
