Reverse Trojan Horse – Why the SNP and Labour should do a coalition deal in 2026 for independence by 2030

When I first saw the above, my first reaction was: ‘DAFT, DAFT and…….DAFT.’

Then something flashed from the nether regions into the front of my brain, while walking the dog.

First, some facts you’ll need:

From a FindOutNow poll for the Alba Party on 16-23 October, 25% of Labour voters would vote YES in a second independence referendum.

From a YouGov poll on 29 August to 3 September a majority of Labour voters 47%/40% would vote YES if independence meant re-joining the EU.

Leaving aside their leadership, most Labour voters share similar positions with the SNP, on taxation, benefits, health, education and foreign policy – broadly left-of-centre, non-interventionist. So, what’s stopping long-time Labour supporters voting for the SNP, even to keep the Tories out?

I don’t know for sure but my experience is that, other than those committed to the Union, they just don’t like the SNP, often locally, because they stole their patch. Nothing is more bitter than a dispute within a family.

To help that significant number of Labour voters in favour of independence come to terms with the SNP, to get over the personal stuff, if the two parties had to work together to run the country for a few years, I think more than a few of the Labour supporters would get used to working with the SNP members, meeting, talking and drinking with them. The wounds would heal, the gaps would narrow and before you know it, the willingness to actually vote YES next time would climb safely into the 60s or above.

Labour support coming into a shared political sphere and feeling comfortable there, I call Reverse Trojan Horse.

    1. Yep totally agree Labour are sleekit, lying scheming…British nationalists who will say and do anything and everything to CON Scotland into signing away even their current minimum governmental powers, and they’ll use any which way they can to ensure Scottish independence is put in a tightly locked box for…well forever really.
Just sign here Ms/Mr/Mrs Scotland, here’s the (poison) pen with a Saltire in it, whaaa ha ha haaaa!!!

  3. The other reason folks ‘just don’t like the SNP ‘ is due to the BritNat media propaganda machine. I’d ask do they ‘like’ having free prescriptions, a functioning SNHS, free uni tuition for their kids or grandkids, lower council tax etc etc. I guess people are quite irrational, hence the horrendous mess the world is in right now, so the SNP will need to drum some logical and rational thinking into those whose emotions overide their intelligence. Not easy when up against the Britnat state.

  4. If Labour in Scotland were to break from the English Labour Party and form an Independent Scottish Labour Party and would commit to Independence then that would work.

As you say they have much in common, apart from the constitutional question, but how many Labour MP’s and MSP’s would jump? Too many seem to view Scotland as a small puddle and they want to swim with the big fish. They are complicit in ensuring Scotland is always treated by Westminster as just another irritating irrelevance in the big picture of Greater England.

    I can’t comprehend that mindset.

  5. This ONLY works for me, if the SNP are the biggest party.

Being subservient to a British nationalist party would NOT enhance their prospects at the ballot box, and they would be used as a shield for every poor policy choice of Labour.

They would do better to just sit on their hands and let the Brit Nats destroy themselves as a looney-tunes coalition of Labour/Tories/Dumbs/Reform.

Can you imagine their first Cabinet meeting with all gazing intently at their phones for their orders from Dann Saff?

  6. The question is, would you want Labour running Scotland in the future, given the useless bunch of people they currently have in Holyrood and have had in their ranks in the recent past? If it were people of the calibre of say, John Smith, Donald Dewar, Robin Cook or John Mackintosh who died tragically back in the 1970’s, then yes, if they were truly committed to independence – which obviously I know they weren’t back in the day, but at least they looked and behaved like decent, intelligent political animals. These days the calibre of person in all the unionist parties in Scotland is pathetically low and we certainly could not trust any of them with the governance of a newly emerged independent nation.

  8. Voters who want Independence will have to vote for Independence supporting Parties. Vote out the Unionist Parties. There will be no one to oppose another Independence Ref. EU/UN principles support self determination and self governance when people vote for it. EU/UN members have to support Independence and self governance in countries when people vote for it. The Eastern European countries over thirty years ago achieved it. 150Million people. On of the arguments for Devolution. They were achieving more democracy than Scotland. Outvoted 10 to 1 at Westminster.

The majority in Scotland voted for Devolution. Blair had to accede because of EU/UN principles. The UK was a member. People in Scotland had a right to abide by EU/UN principles. Blair/Labour acceded limited powers. The Tories, Thatcher held it back 20 years. Took all the wealth and resources from Scotland. Lied about it and kept it secret under the Official Secrets Act. There is less chance they can do that now because of Devolution and the powers of the Scottish separate administration to oppose the policies of Westminster. Mitigate.

Why unionist parties supporters, who support Independence, vote unionist is a mystery. There is less chance they will get it. Or another Indy Ref. They need to vote for Independence supporting Parties. A higher turnout. 60% turnout vote in a GE, 85% vote in a Referendum. An increase in Independence supporters (turnout) voting for Independence Parties is more likely to succeed. Supporting the electorate. There will be less opposition to stop another Indy Ref.

  9. Noticed this on the BBC. “Two men who brought cocaine and cannabis worth more than £100,000 into Shetland have been jailed.

Ross Bradley, 37, and Connor McNeil, 28, admitted being concerned in the supply of drugs at the Aberdeen and Lerwick ferry terminals in January.

Sheriff Ian Cruickshank said such actions would not be tolerated.

Bradley, of Bishopbriggs, East Dunbartonshire, was jailed for two years and six months while McNeill, of Clydebank, West Dunbartonshire, was sentenced to two years and three months.”

I wonder if they really cane from Bishopbriggs??? Whats the chances of the BBC hiding the truth
