Herald and GMB attack SNP’s well-meaning employment rights ‘guidance’ conveniently ignoring the fact that it’s a reserved matter and that Scottish Labour betrayed Scots on it

Scottish Labour was elected on a manifesto which pledged to support the devolution of employment law (Image: PA)

The Herald today, has:

SNP workers’ rights policy is no more than feel good fluff

Employment law is, of course, reserved to the UK Government1 and Scottish Labour, in 2023, under a Tory government, with no interest in improving employment rights, would not support a motion calling for the devolution of employment law – despite a manifesto pledge to back the policy.2

Readers will remember that Scottish Labour Leader, Anas Sarwar, has previous on this:

Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar has confirmed that not all workers at his family’s wholesale business are currently paid the real living wage. His party wants to introduce new minimum rates of pay linked to the cost of living as part of its “new deal for workers”. Other parties accused him of “hypocrisy” over the policy.3

As for the GMB:

  1. Unless we remove the root of the problem, we will never be completely free from this disinformation. The root? Being part of the U.K. Being an Independent nation once again, while not completely eradicating these lies, will make then almost meaningless. Until then, we can only snipe from the side lines, because the M.SM, mainly owned by non doms, or the state controlled B.B.C, will continue their brainwashing, unhindered by anything we say, or do. This is not to denigrate T.U.S, or indeed any other Independence supporting website, but at times it feels like farting in a thunderstorm. Never heard.

    1. Alex, I would contend that while I agree with your point of the overwhelming control that the “Union” has over the media, their “stench” is becoming less and less odious as more folk become aware of what they are up to.

You only have to refer to the circulation figures or viewers / audience figures in the case of BBC Scotland, to see how much they have declined over the years and continue to do so.

Up to us to continue to spread the actual facts as supplied by TUS and others.

  2. GMB?The union that conspired with labour councils to pay female workers (and others) less; which in reparation almost bankrupted Glasgow and cost many if its members their jobs; reduced essential public services and forced the sell off of major public buildings to pay the bill? That GMB?

  3. Much as I would like to blame Rebecca McCurdy for ” A flagship SNP policy on employment rights has been described as “feel good fluff” and is currently failing workers, a leading union has warned ” – She wouldn’t know what a flagship looks like, nor do her editorial seniors but they do know failure = flagship when it comes to SNP headlines – Yet so does the the flash Keir having taken over PR from Gary “the Rat Man”…

You only need google ” Keir Greenaway ” to see his “work”… A man who clearly hasn’t done a day’s graft in his puff but knows how the media works – Just as one example ” Union withdraws support for National Care Service plan ” of 11th September via BBC Scotland https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cp8n64wy8k4o – He’s been busy at ‘work’ for many years, albeit without the ‘suits’ hangup every bit as dishonest as James Cook..

Without employed ‘mechanics’ such as Keir I doubt Sarwar would have survived as long as he has, he’s Labour’s ‘Dominic Cummings’ without the Barnard-Castle ‘eyetest’ embarrassment…

eg – To Rebecca’s verbatim quote from the mechanic Keir – ” In a letter to the minister, seen exclusively by The Herald, Mr Greenaway said the lack of monitoring or enforcement has meant Fair Work First has done little to improve workers’ pay and conditions or make work fairer ” – A Keir to Keir review might have changed something perhaps ? The simple fact that the ‘laddy’s not for turning’ tells you all you need to know – The scam continues…

  4. Workers in Scotland can , of course , trust Anas Sarwar to fight for their rights !

As a millionaire working class lad he knows the difficulties imposed on those who start from the bottom : he has had to fight all his life for his Private Education and Private Health Care , his MP’s job through his daddy’s contacts , then his MSP’s job when kicked out of Westminster ,followed by his elevation by daddy’s buddies to the Scottish (sic ) Labour leadership .

Anas Sarwar bleeds working class values , even if , unlike Kemi Badenoch , he eschewed a weekend job in McDonalds to cement his working class credentials .

    1. No, workers in Scotland cannot in any way at all ‘trust Anas sarwar to fight for their rights’ quite the opposite. He is definitely not ‘working class’ never has been and never will be. Yes he is a BritNat plant and tool, yes he has no doubt been promised a seat in the HOL’s to be paid £300++ a day for life(!) should he succeed in conning the people in enough numbers to fall for his masters lies as told by him.
A grifter, a trougher, that is all, and doing what he is told by his masters in London, lying to the people of Scotland. No thanks!!

BBC Headline on website in Scottish Politics section

“Minister ‘doing job’ using chauffeur at football”

“A government spokesman said the publicly-funded car trips were “in accordance with travel and subsistence policies”

Today it is currently the 3rd story , yesterday it was the top story.

So Neil Gray, is yet another Scottish Health minister who is now apparently in the BBC’s ‘firing’ line and also with the opposition too (also yet again).

The article also mentions ,as in it explains, what happened with the former Health minister, just so that we , the readers, also know that he too was supposdley very very #SNPBAD.

(Just in case we forgot about his, Michael Mathieson’s, so called ‘scandal’ that was over blown by the media and too the opposition parties , same one that the BBC had on their website for way way too long , and not with just one article , but with various articles at the same time).

How long before someone demands that this new Scottish Health minister, Neil Gray, should resign or a demand is made of John Swinney to sack him.

This is now a familiar scenario.

A SNP MSP who is a Scottish minister does something that is considered #SNPBAD and then the BBC ‘goes in for the (over) kill. (as do others).

So how long will this new BBC sensationalised story relating to a new Scottish health minister be on their website, and also perhaps other articles too in relation to this same story ?

Far longer than the recent #BAD story about the Labour councillor, of that I am 100% sure.

How much mileage will they, the BBC, try to get out of it, in that they hope it will end with his resignation, and also as a bonus for them , yet another so called black mark against the SNP that they, the BBC here, helped to instigate.

Tory deputy leader Rachael Hamilton accused him of making “shoddy excuses”.

While obviously she, Hamilton, was forgetting the “shoddy excuses” her Tory UK colleagues made over Dominic Cummings breaking Covid rules and also the excuses many Tory UK government ministers made for Boris Johnson over #PartyGate

Labour deputy leader Jackie Baillie said “These taxpayer-funded trips are bound to raise some eyebrows and Neil Gray must explain clearly how all of these journeys can be considered Scottish government business”

She too was forgetting how many “eyebrows” were raised recently in the revelations over donations from a Labour peer to her UK leader for clothes for himself and his wife and also to pay for his expensive glasses and also the various so called hospitality ‘freebies’ for him and also for other Labour MP’s that included the deputy Labour leader accepting a holiday break in a donor’s luxury NY apartment.

This then being further evidence that proves Labour are not, as they like to state, the party for the working man but instead seem to be abusing their privileged positions as MP’s a tad way too much, as in them enjoying the ‘High life’ at someone else’s expense.

In that many of them have accepted a lot of so called hospitality ‘freebies’ and “gifts” while , like the former Tory governments, they are now asking us the public to ‘tighten our belts’ and basically, unlike them , we then have to do without.

Both Tory and Labour deputy leaders (ITO) at Holyrood , and also the BBC, want the public in Scotland to ignore their own parties many wrongs and instead only always focus upon #SNPBAD.

This is now becoming so so so very tiresome in that both the BBC and the opposition parties are now seemingly still synchronising their attacks upon the SNP , with the ultimate goal being to try to dent the public’s confidence in the SNP.

But also to try to destroy them, the SNP, as a political force in Scotland and so replace them at Holyrood with a British political party as the new Scottish government.

Sanity and logic should prevent that from happening in 2026 but that depends on sanity prevailing and logic being applied by voters here, which for some seems to be a big ask based on the recent results in the UK GE in Scotland.

However many more in Scotland seem to now be far more aware of #UKLABOURBAD that is , since they have been at the helm as the new UK government , so perhaps these attacks on the SNP may be futile , I do really really hope so for all our sakes.

In June 2024 , before the UK GE, the BBC Scotland team , via a podcast ,did an interview with Helen McDade from the Reform UK party and this is how they described it online:

“Martin Geissler sits down with Helen McDade of Reform UK. Reform UK is Nigel Farage’s latest political vehicle. They’re a broad church, united it seems by an opposition to immigration, but does Scotland share that same sentiment? In this audio version of the BBC Scotland Sunday Show interview, Martin asks McDade about how she found a home in Reform UK following her career working at environmental charities, and how exactly they want to reform the UK”

Then last night Scotland Tonight decided to also interview her, where she was not very forthcoming with her responses , other than stating they will be an opposition party at Holyrood if they get MSP’s elected in 2026.

(Opposition being the operative word as they seem to oppose most things and most people who fail to agree with their skewed vision of how their UK should be in the future and where their party leader Farage cares little for Scotland now or in the future).

She looked very uncomfortable in being questioned as do most members of her party when questioned as they do tend to take umbrage when asked anything that requires an answer Ha Ha.

So she became quite defensive that she should be made to explain/expand on who they are as a party and what they represent for Scotland.

(Short and accurate answer to that being NOWT)

Amusingly at the end of the interview we saw her glare at Colin Mackay as if she was quite disgruntled that he should be so persistent in trying to get some real information from her answers which was proving to be a tad difficult as she seemed way too defensive and reluctant to elaborate in her (non) responses and also very much somewhat short on detail.

    Does she understand politics ?

The public are supposed to expect politicians to give answers and offer solutions to Q’s that they , as the public, consider important and also issues that need to be addressed. So if you want the public to elect your party’s candidates then at least be willing to be challenged and be willing to be more transparent with who you are as a party and what you represent.

So is this what we will now see, via the media in Scotland going forward, up to 2026 ?

The Reform UK party being platformed by the media in Scotland , where those ‘select few’ voters who formally voted either Tory, UKIP, Brexit party or any new party that were supposdley ‘all’ for the ‘Unity in Britain’ but who all, as parties, crashed and burned (except the Tories) in their quest to get their parties MSP’s elected at Holyrood .

Many of whom, as parties, seemingly only try to be elected in our parliament to attempt to instigate as much disruption, division and hate in Scotland as they currently have done within England.

I am sure their media fans, GB News , who are also Farage’s part time employer, will do their best to both support them and lie for them in the lead up to the 2026 election in Scotland , while we will also see the useless so called mainstream media in Scotland help to shore up more support for them in them also promoting (platforming) them as somehow being a viable voting alternative to a mainstream party.

How does Farage and his many parties succeed ?

Look no further than the UK media to see how he has got this far as in too far.

    1. Yep I’m sure they will be given a platform to spout their well, I don’t know what, cr*p I suppose. Yep, they will be used by the Brit state to sow seeds of divide whichever way they can muster.
Also, I wonder which ‘environmental charities’ H. McDade worked for, hmm…
