BBC Scotland go to Cornwall to suggest an energy powerhouse like Scotland is subject to global events like every other country

As the energy companies announce a 10% hike, BBC Scotland went to visit locals who will struggle, then tried to explain it all way as due to ‘global events’ that cannot be avoided, using in a surreal manner, a woman from Cornwall Insight for evidence.

You can be sure that Norwegian news broadcasters are not telling their viewers that Norway is helpless in the face of global events. Why? Because they have the oil, gas and wind power to be able to protect their population from exploitation.

Is Norway unique?

Well, I know a country with the same population (c5 million) to protect but with even more energy resources than Norway.

Any hard evidence for my claim above?

Just this:

Scotland is currently transferring 1.69TWh of electricity per month to England, more than 20TWh in 2023 and on some days (above graph) pushing 30TWh.

1TWh would sell globally for about $120 000 per hour, so on that basis Scotland’s 20TWh could generate $2.8m every hour or $1bn every day or $365 billion per year. So much for that £1bn SNP black hole in the budget? https://www.eia.gov/electricity/sales_revenue_price/

  1. It’s almost as if the idiots at Pacific Quay are saying “We see your oil/gas/wind and raise you pasties and clotted cream.” 🤦‍♂️

  2. But if the generous English didn’t TAKE our energy it would just be lying about tripping us up and making the place look untidy ! Just like all that untidy oil and gas we took off their hands …now , where’s that Scottish water ?

  3. Yep – HMS James Cook is anxious to project “the market” as dictating what happens in Cornwall is as much as Scotland, the ‘better together’ approach which has always been bullshit, particularly when it is so obviously defending the WFA scam by the Starmer/Reeves double act – Have a look to Cornwall – Winter temperatures at worst +4 and try to equate that to Caithness at -27, the bit Kate Mulvanny studiously avoids or was prevented addressing.

The EU bought into the UK market model years ago, only when the energy crisis hit did it dawn on them they were prone to market manipulation by malevolent players – It was not Ukraine which caused the problem, they were excuse for profit-taking by outsiders, ring a bell ?
