In the run-up to the 10th anniversary of the Scottish independence referendum the BBC decide to ‘celebrate’ NO’s win

Anonymous

Next week on BBC there is a two part two hour documentary, that was commissioned by the BBC called “Salmond and Sturgeon: A troubled Union”.

They, the BBC, are promoting it on their website via their BBC Media centre online section where they say that it, as an article , is:

“To be broadcast in the run-up to the 10th anniversary of the Scottish independence referendum, the series includes contributions from; First Minister, John Swinney: former First Minister, Humza Yousaf: Liz Lloyd, Nicola Sturgeon’s former Chief of Staff: George Osborne, former Chancellor of the Exchequer and Geoff Aberdein, Alex Salmond’s former Chief of Staff”.

So “in the run-up to the 10th anniversary of the Scottish independence referendum the BBC decide to ‘celebrate’ (NO’s win ?) by commissioning and broadcasting a documentary that will have show two prominent figures on the YES side , where according to this BBC article, “the series will focus on turning points in the SNP’s fortunes“, the “tensions which arose in the hierarchy” and also apparently will be a “tale of ambitionpower and broken friendships and it reveals the human cost of devoting your entire life to a political cause.”.

Firstly we could challenge why both Mr Salmond and Ms Sturgeon agreed to be:

a) A part of a documentary such as this to be broadcast ” “in the run-up to the 10th anniversary of the Scottish independence referendum” which is hardly one that puts either them as politicians or indeed the YES side in a positive light.

b) It being a documentary commissioned by the BBC ! (a pro British broadcaster and no friend to or supporter of either independence, the SNP or indeed Mr Salmond or Ms Sturgeon, indeed the opposite is the case as in they, the BBC , are the opponents to all noted)

We could also ask why Humza Yousaf and John Swinney also agreed to contribute to a BBC commissioned documentary based on a “Troubled Union” that was concerning Mr Salmond’s and Ms Sturgeon’s relationship .

I mean surely the only real “Troubled Union” is the (supposed but not) “Union” where those who support the UK refer to us, Scotland, as being a nation that is a part of a (supposed but not) “Union” but where we on here, and others also , see it as not a “Union” but do agree it is very much “Troubled” as an actuality for us in Scotland.

The production company and director tasked with this job by the BBC formerly did documentaries such as “The Rise and Fall of Boris Johnson” and “Jeremy Kyle: Death on Daytime” so it seems that much of their area of ‘expertise’ ,as a production company , seems to be as one where they do exposés on a subject regarded as either shocking or ‘controversial’ (which is a term the BBC loves to associate with any action via the SNP as the Scottish government)

So “in the run-up to the 10th anniversary of the Scottish independence referendum” why (do the BBC) not commission a documentary or better still a drama (an honest and truthful one) on why all that was promised by the NO side, who won in 2014, has now not transpired for Scotland.

Plus that same NO side conducted what was called “Project Fear” where we in Scotland were told during the independence referendum campaign by the NO side that there would be high food prices , high energy bills, also that we, Scotland, would be out of the EU , Mortgages would rise and a there would be very much a dire state of affairs that would all come to pass but only if we had voted YES in 2014.

What is really shocking is that all of these NO prophecies have now actually come true but not by us voting YES but by us , via a not overwhelming or shockingly high percentage, voting NO.

(Plus we were also told oil was going to run out, indeed an ‘expert’ -Sir Ian Wood- told the BBC that it, Oil, would run out in 2019 , -they the BBC tweeted this non fact- but it , Oil, did not run out , so yet another lie via that same “Project Fear” campaign -that included the BBC as part of it – all conducted by the same NO side campaign)

I mean how come there was a drama commissioned on Brexit called “Brexit: The uncivil war” which did an exposé of those on the ‘Leave’ side with many of the main ‘characters’ being depicted in a very unflattering light as those who plotted and schemed (Lied) in order to try and win the vote in 2016 for ‘Leave’ , which included, as plotters and schemers, many prominent Tory politicians.

Yet where is the same commissioned exposé, in drama form, of some of the main ‘characters’ on the NO side in the independence referendum of 2014 (two years prior to Brexit) that also depicts how they , as main characters on the NO side in the independence referendum campaign , also very much plotted and schemed (Lied), to win that referendum.

The BBC comments on this documentary , in relation to Mr Salmond and Ms Sturgeon, about “the human cost of devoting your entire life to a political cause.” so why was and is there now also no same reflection and observation on some of those on the NO side (as in Pro UK side) also experiencing a “human cost” in “devoting their entire (political) lives to the political cause that is the UK” ,via an alternate commissioned documentary.

As we do now know , as does the BBC, that some of those on the opposing side of the independence referendum campaign, that is those on the NO side, have since 2014 ( up to 2024) very much bore the brunt in experiencing a cost politically and personally in UK GE’s.

Where the Labour party , post 2014, have been in the political wilderness in Scotland when in the 2015 GE many Labour MP’s lost their hold on Scotland as they as Labour MP’s, bar one Labour MP, lost their seats in Scottish constituencies. (until in 2024 some voters in Scotland decided to forgive and forget the 2014 lies by Labour and again vote for them in the recent UK GE).

Perhaps in five years time the BBC may want to commission another documentary that is an exposé on how Keir Starmer and his Labour party managed to con some voters in Scotland to once again trust them , in 2024, as a party and as the new UK government but where that trust was then proven to be misplaced.

(Surely there is ‘Buyers remorse’ with some in Scotland who once again fell for empty slogans and soundbites such as those promoting a supposed but not “Change” and also a supposed but not “Fresh Start” .

However now they, Labour UK, are only being seen as actually delivering and offering us the public the same old same old that we, in Scotland, have all suffered under the previous UK government as in when we were governed by the Tory UK party).

Hopefully Labour will once again, in Scotland, be deservedly put back into the political wilderness with one reason being because they as politicians have “devoted their entire political lives to the political cause that is the UK” .

Which, as a “devotion to a political cause”, will eventually again result in both a personal ‘Human cost” and also a “political cost” for them individually and as a party in Scottish politics.

Where once again , we will see Labour become, in Scotland, those who are agins seen to be as insignificant and also very much those considered to be a minor political entity within Scotland.

All because it seems that for them Labour , as a party, it is more important that they as politicians continue to campaign to try to keep the UK intact than try to, as politicians , support and fight for us in Scotland as part of their UK.

Indeed that is very much their, Labour’s, obsession, with Scotland but is not ever either recognised or acknowledged as an obsession by the BBC in their news programmes, Debate programmes or indeed in them, as a broadcaster, ever considering commissioning a drama or documentary to focus upon that as a subject.

(Of course there is always the risk that those same Scots who seemingly are always willing to be very much fooled far more than just once or twice, Indeed they are willing as voters in Scotland, to be fooled constantly to then also suffer some personal “Human cost” in them foolishly once again trusting a party not worthy of their trust, as in the Labour party).

As it seems that for some voters here in Scotland that either their short memories pre and post 2014, or the BBC Scotland’s relentless deluge of anti SNP propaganda and also very much , for them as voters in Scotland, a lack of faith in their own actual country, as in Scotland’s potential, abilities and wealth that then sees them, as voters, too susceptible to political ‘Slogans’ and ‘soundbites’ from the likes of the Labour party.

Which then allows the BBC to commission documentaries such as this one that is going out on BBC 1 next week about Mr Salmond and Ms Sturgeon and their “Troubled Union” (as part of their , BBC Scotland’s, ongoing campaign on behalf of the Labour party for the 2026 Scottish elections which the BBC hopes will end both the SNP’s time as the Scottish government and too , the BBC hopes, any prospect for Scottish independence to happen).

  1. The ‘programme’ will put up support for Independence. Along with Labour being in governance at Westminster. Attacking the old and the young. Same old, same old. BBC controlled by Westminster lies.

    1. “Put up support for Independence”. Possibly, but where does that leave us? I would suggest no nearer to achieving our goal. Opinion polls could say that 99% of Scots want to be independent, and Westminster would still refuse us “permission”, as ruled by their Supreme Court. Oh aye, the Tartan Army sing about sending the English home again to think again, instead some Scots invite them in to steal and rob us of our riches. So how exactly do we achieve our aim?

  2. Would it not be just TERRIBLE if some hacker broke into the BEEB, and exposed the debates by the BBC Board about Scotland since 2014, the interviews for the post of Scotland Editor, and the emails directing what the Controller of BBC Scotland (BBC North Brit) had to do to keep his job.

Yup that would be dreadful, for someone to break into the BEEB and tell the TRUTH.

He would deserve to be locked away for a while——I know a good pub where he could serve his time—all free of course.

  3. Even if BBC Scotland were to make an attempt at reporting accurately the run up to the Independence Referendum, they have over many years systematically destroyed their own reputation from doctored video clips, to lies about emails to their constant run down of Scotland, its people and its government.

I have more chance of becoming pregnant than believing in BBC Scotland.

  4. Putting up support for Independence means more people voting unionists out. A higher number voting for Independence Parties. A higher number voting. There would be than be less opposition. UN principles the right to self governance, self determination when people vote for it.

People voted Labour not because they support Labour but to get the Tories out. The dislike of the Tories was prevalent. Labour is now attacking the old and the young. Totally misguided policies. They will flounder. Pensioners are more likely to vote. People did not want or like to see children in poverty. The birth rate is already going down.

It would be more advantageous to let asylum seekers work. Take away the stigma of false benefit notions. Improve the economy and stop riots and protests in the South. Costing even more in prison sentences and destructive tensions.

  5. wouldnt it be great if they went over all the goings on and the lies that were told.

All the lies the No side told, the breaking of the rules of the referendum, the opening of votes, and the BBC bias it its reporting!
