Labour incompetence in governing Wales as hospital waiting list surges to 22% longer than Scotland’s and more than 100 000 suffer

From BBC Wales today:

The waiting list for hospital treatment in Wales has reached another record high, with about a fifth of the Welsh population waiting to be seen. The latest figures show that in May 2024 there were 611,500 individual patients waiting for just over 787,900 treatments to take place, both record figures.1

From the Morning Star, three days ago:

But new figures sho501w waiting lists in Scotland have instead soared to an all-time high, with over 864,366 patients waiting either for an appointment, tests or hospital treatment by the end of June.2

Wales has a population 3.14 million, 58% of Scotland’s 5.44 million so, per head, might have been expected to have a hospital waiting list 58% of Scotland’s 864 366, or 501 332.

It had 611 500, 110 178, or 22% more. Shocking incompetence.

  1. A personal comment. Yesterday, my with who suffers from Alzheimer’s Disease, needed urgent care. From the paramedics, to Hospital at Home doctor and nurse, and finally a consultant physician, the care and attention was first class. Well done the S.N.H.S.

  2. What surprises me is that BBCScorchedland CANNOT find a link between the incompetent NHS in Wales and the SNP Government up here ! They really have to work harder at their job of misrepresenting Scotland .

  3. Would the data source be the same Morning Star which has regularly supported right wing private care home spokespeople in Scotland in attacking the Scottish Government?

I suspect its tone in reporting the waiting list in Scotland would be one of gloating like the rest of the unionist media.

Meanwhile elderly people like my wife and I get easy access to GP and other Health Board services. She is to get a vaccination against respiratory illness today, and I get the same next week. I gave a blood sample last Wednesday and had the results two days later.

I had a dental appointment yesterday.

  4. Recently I fell over a box (forgot I’d moved it), the outcome of which was a fractured and dislocated pinky, cut nose, swollen cheekbone, two black eyes etc. (couldn’t even blame anyone else!)

Given what the SNHS Hospitals have to deal with on a daily basis, my injuries rightfully were considered ‘minor’.

The A & E was absolutely packed and the staff (although understaffed due to those who HAD to return to their homelands) excellent throughout.

Yes, I did have a long wait, but that was ok, because I knew that the fantastic Doctors and Nurses would ‘sort me out’.

They were absolutely great and we even managed to have “a wee laugh at my ‘two for one!'”

X hours later, examination, treatment, two X-rays, off I went.

A follow-up appointment and another booked for physiotherapy (due to the break and dislocation).

When we do ‘daft things’ or far more serious illnesses and accidents happen, we’re so very lucky that OUR SNHS is there for us.

Hospitals are always busy, staff kept going constantly, which should always be appreciated.

Those who down our precious SNHS, to score political points, are who we can do without.

Our Scottish NHS isn’t perfect (what is), but upon Independence, WE Scots would be able to ensure it can be made as near perfect as possible for all of us.

When you have a ‘precious jewel’, you don’t allow political lowlife to down it constantly, or defund to the point of collapse.

Always remember, when the English Establishment defund/fail to fund properly the NHS

(THEY HAND THE MONEY TO PRIVATEERS INVEIGLED INTO THE NHS),

ScotGov have less money to spend on everything, including our SNHS.

    Put Scotland first, choose Independence.
