In the National today:

SCOTLAND’S wind industry hit a big milestone on Thursday as the country’s wind power capacity surpassed 14.5 gigawatts (GW).

With the opening of the new Viking Wind Farm in Shetland, Scottish turbines now have enough capacity to power almost 13 million homes.

The development also brought the UK’s total wind power generation capacity over 30GW, with 48% coming from Scottish developments.

There are 28 million households in the UK. Scotland could power 46% of them.

Too poor, too wee, too stupid to cope on our own?

    1. Poolin’ an’ sharin’, you say. Mair like foolin’ an’ scarin’.

But then that’s how they treated all their colonial ‘outposts’. “You chaps couldn’t possibly manage without the motherland to oversee your resources. Trust us. We know {exactly} what we’re doing.”

  2. £8Billion a year going south. CCS projects at Peterhead and Longannet in Fife (coal) reneged upon and refused. Scotland is covered in coal.

EU countries investing in CCS. Scotland has the technology and the opportunity. Westminster refuses.

  3. There is good reason to be pleased at the latest news on the Shetland project, but do bear in mind this one was very different to the norm.

A fully justifiable gripe of many producers has been the glacial response of Ofgen and National Grid in ensuring onward grid connections could cope, not so on this project, it was all pre-planned to bypass them and the bottlenecks…

    Orkney are still waiting….
