After days of 100% reliability and a summer of service better than any other globally, Scotsman reports entirely imaginary disruption for political purposes

The Scotsman today has:

Passenger disruption on CalMac’s most popular route will be prolonged again after a new setback to lengthy repairs on one of its oldest ferries, The Scotsman has learned.

Caledonian Isles, which has been off the main Arran route since January, is not now expected to return to service until next month – more than a week later than expected.

There has been a delay in repairs to one of the regular Arran ferries but the service, 10 crossings per day on time, has been maintained with a replacement ferry. There has been no disruption at all to a service far better, safer, more reliable and far cheaper due to SNP government subsidy, than any in the developed world – from New Zealand to Greece, England, the USA and Canada.

  1. Even though..

“Caledonian Isles, which has been off the main Arran route since January, is not now expected to return to service until next month – MORE THAN A WEEK LATER THAN EXPECTED.”

It provides another opportunity to bash the Scottish Government..

    Ad nauseum

This uses tireless repetition of an idea. An idea, especially a simple slogan (the ferries) , that is repeated enough times, may begin to be taken as the truth. This approach is more effective alongside the propagandist limiting or controlling the media.

  2. 34 ferries. 6 on order. 2 fuel saving. 70,000 islanders. 1 ferry per 2,000 islanders on average. Better than some bus services. Subsidised fares and flights. Ferries being built in Scotland putting monies into the economy.

  4. Much hyperbolic nonsense from Alastair Dalton, he even got quotes such as ‘ One islander said Arran had already endured a “long and challenging summer” ‘…. Scroll further down and there’s this – ‘ Sam Bourne, the independent traveller representative on the committee said: “It’s been a long and challenging summer with restricted capacity. This is a result of CalMac’s ageing and over-stretched major vessel fleet. The workhorse Isle of Arran, that has kept a service running this summer, is now over 40 years old. Caledonian Isles is now due back in service around Sept 8-9, if all goes well.”

Presumably Sam is over 40 even if he has the imagination of a 6 year old….

      1. You mean when journalists didn’t try to con you into thinking Sam Bourne and “an islander” were two separate people ?

        Yes..

      2. Sam Bourne. Not just a seasoned traveller. Just Google him.

He brings this vital knowledge and experience to the Arran Ferry Action Group as we attempt to gain answers and work to find solutions to the numerous complex technical issues on the Arran ferry routes.

        1. I just did that and maybe I need to refine my internet filters a bit, but I take it that he is not the same guy that appears in quite a few adult films then?

I had to watch a few right enough just in case a ferry appeared.
