Who would like to revisit an example of some Tory nostalgia but this time with the Labour party ?
“Minister defends Labour donor’s civil service job”
(This headline is reminiscent of similar headlines when the Tories were in power as the UK government as in we often saw “(Tory) Minister defends TORY donor’s – fill in the blanks – but it could be either defending the awarding of a peerage, awarding of a government contract to or gaining a ministerial position in the Tory government post being awarded a peerage- like say for example Malcom Offord).
“Chief Secretary to the Treasury Darren Jones told BBC Radio 4’s World At One programme that appointing Ian Corfield as director of investment at the Treasury was “perfectly appropriate” and “it’s good to bring in external expertise”.
Correct me if I am wrong but was this not one of the actions that the Labour party and also Keir Starmer criticised the Tories for often doing ?
Apparently yes .
As it has been reported that the Tories based on this news responded by stating that:
“Labour often accused the Conservatives of “cronyism” in appointing political allies to public bodies”.
Though to be fair (not as in being fair to Labour but just to verify truth) that is what the Tories did do when in power.
However two wrongs do not make a right no matter how much Labour try to spin this news as being appropriate and that ‘no rules have been broken’.
“Mr Corfield, a former banker who has donated a total of £20,000 to Labour MPs including £5,000 to now-Chancellor Rachel Reeves in 2023, was brought in to help deliver an international investment summit in October”
So , pre the GE, many on here predicted that for your donation to the Labour party, there would be a return for you as a donor , by the Labour party for your donation to them.
In this particular case a position of influence and power and also a financial return for this particular donor (would that financial return for him exceed that which he donated to Labour ?).
Remember the civil service that serves the government is supposed to be ‘neutral’ though I am sure in his post this former Labour donor will always try his best to adhere to that objective.
However it does not stop there as also reported:
“As well as Mr Corfield, the government has faced questions about another individual linked to previous donations to the Labour Party being appointed to a senior civil service role.
“Emily Middleton was named a director general in the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT), where the secretary of state is Peter Kyle”.
“She was previously a partner at consultancy firm Public Digital, which paid for her secondment to Mr Kyle’s office in opposition – a donation in kind of more than £65,000. She was also seconded to Labour Together”.
“A government spokesperson said Ms Middleton’s appointment was made “in line with the civil service rules on recruitment”.
It seems nothing will “Change” with this new UK government in comparison to identical actions that we saw with the previous UK government (Tories) which may confirm that both seem to indeed be cheeks of the same proverbial A**e .
Also appropriate to note that any and all criticism on this particular subject that is being directed at the Labour party falls under the category of:
‘If the Cap fits’ (wear it).

Yes , it is the same anonymous who prefers to stay, if that is okay, anonymous.

Nice article.
Can I ask people to take a look at a documentary available on Netflix – ‘The Spiders Web’. It disects how the City of London operates overseas terriroties as a global money laundeing scam. It also details the massive con of Labours beloved PFI schemes.
In summary it exposes what a morally repellent scumbag entity the British ruling class/finance industry closed shop is.
‘The Spiders Web’ – on Netflix now.

Might be on YouTube as well…worth looking out for. English Labour GBUK party are as dodgy as the Tory party, yet some still believe they are squeaky clean. Scotland will be ruined if folks don’t wise up and vote for the Scottish parties. English establishment are determined to keep control of Scotland and will do anything to take Scotland back to England’s two party system of Labcons and Tory cons with a pretendy Libcon party thrown in. No thanks.

If Labour do stick to Tory economics during their term in office what is it they are being entrusted to carry out?
I can see them making reforms to the constitution, public sector, defence and foreign policy.
Could these recent Labour-run Welsh government changes for the Senedd have a connection to Labour’s published recommendations for changes to the UK constitution?
https://www.gov.wales/senedd-reform
“On 8 May 2024, Members of the Senedd voted to:
-increase the size of the Senedd to 96 Members.
-change the electoral system to one fully based on the principle of proportional representation, with names of all candidates on the ballot paper. From the 2026 Senedd election, the D’Hondt formula will be used.
-make 16 new Senedd constituencies, which will be created by pairing the 32 UK Parliamentary constituencies, in time for the 2026 Senedd election. There will be a full boundary review after the 2026 Senedd election
-have 6 Members of the Senedd elected, from closed lists, in each of the 16 constituencies.
-increase the limit on the number of Welsh Ministers who can be appointed from 12 to 17 (plus the First Minister and the Counsel General) with the ability to further increase the number to 18 or 19 with the Senedd’s approval.
-give Members of the Senedd the flexibility to elect a second Deputy Presiding Officer.
-make it law that all candidates for Senedd elections and Members of the Senedd are resident in Wales.
-hold Senedd elections every 4 years from 2026 onwards.

If Labour changes (or actually introduces) a constitution, will it be only within the devolved nations (excluding England) and English Mayoral authorities? Will it give England a Parliament?
If it does these things will it devolve significant powers to them, including revenue raising, and make them immune from Westminster veto except under tightly prescribed circumstances and rules? That is, will there be a genuine separation of powers as in federal states nations?
Will it change the electoral system for Westminster? Will it end the House of Lords and have a different kind of second chamber of fixed size and end the power of the Government to appoint members to the second chamber?
Such things would be welcome.
However, wealth must be significantly redistributed by a fairer and more progressive taxation system.

These ”appointments” to important Civil Service positions raise an important career question for those contemplating the Civil Service .
Anyone with ambitions for a Senior Position needs to think about , firstly joining either a Bank or another Financial Institution , then making a high profile donation to a prospective Labour Minister , then highlighting these qualities on their Application Form .

More corruption. More and more and more. Starving their mother’s that gave them birth and poor children. The sheer corruption of the UK Gov beyond any doubt. Voters remorse. They are warned many times, especially in Scotland, but many do not listen.
People who support Independence need to go out and vote and not vote unionist. A higher turnout. Or they will not get Independence. Just more Westminster corruption.

Wales population 3 million. Proximity to London. People can live in Wales and commute to London for work. A long commute but still possible. Especially with home working+available. London salaries are higher in the UK. Accommodation more expensive. Total congestion affects the economy adversely. Traffic at a standstill. Pressure everywhere. Anywhere but Heathrow hold ups.
Thatcher put road transport through London. Scotland has to pay to subsidies London Transport & Heathrow slots. Thatcher funded Canary Wharf bankers and Tilbury Docks. 26miles of container port. Ports throughout Britain lost out. The Bankers fund the Tory Party.
Thatcher lied and secretly misused Scotland Oil & Gas revenues. The Barnett Formula to take revenues and resources from Scotland. Then cut the Block Grant and shut every manufacturing facility in Scotland. Increasing poverty. Unemployment was 15% in Scotland. UK interest rates 17% and inflation 15%. Ruining the economy. Violent protests and riots. The miners strike and Poll tax protests.

The following article was on ITVX on their website on the 22 August.
I have added my comments in brackets.
“Labour rejects calls to give under-30s freedom of movement in EU”
(Therefore, just like the Tories, choosing to limit the prospects of young people).
“Labour has rejected calls to give under-30s freedom of movement in the EU after it was reported a youth mobility scheme could be part of a new trade deal”
(“Could be part of a ‘new’ trade deal” however , just like the Tories, Labour wants to ‘cherry pick’ what they want for their Britain and so assumes the EU will oblige them)
Starmer also “promised to renegotiate an improved trade deal with Europe, which the EU has warned would require concessions on the movement of people”.
(I fear that Labour, just like the Tories, will proclaim how unreasonable the EU are being , in them, the EU, supposedly being reported as refusing to ‘budge’ on this , in what is in effect an agreed rule that sees all EU member countries adhere to, that is for those countries, who are as countries, still a part of the EU and so do have a trade deal as being part of the EU)
(However , just like the Tories, Labour will blame the EU and not the fact that they as the Labour government, just like the Tories, want their ‘cake and eat it’ for their UK via any supposed ‘new’ trade deal with the EU . Where Labour will refuse to agree to any ‘movement of people’ between the EU and the UK as that would then anger the Brexiteers and their media- also known as Labour, like the Tories, ‘cutting their nose off to spite their face’- or rather to the detriment of people in the UK).
“A youth mobility scheme would not replicate the freedom of movement which was previously enjoyed when the UK was an EU member as it would require visas, proof of sufficient funds, and health insurance”.
(So this scheme would not be hassle free for the youth of the UK. As the above additional requirements the youth of the UK would need as being part of this scheme, as those from a non EU country, is reminiscent of how it was for us in the UK when we used to travel to and visit Europe. That is long long before the UK was ever a EU member country many many years ago. However , just like the Tories, Labour do not care).
“Such schemes already exist in countries including Australia”.
“But a government spokesperson told ITV News it would not be happening”
(Of course it will not “be happening” with the new Blue Labour UK government as , just like the Tories, Labour still needs to appease those voters in the Red/Blue wall area in North England and also other Brexiteers. In order to reassure them all that Brexit will never be reversed and so no concessions will be agreed with those supposed, but not really, so called ‘unelected bureaucrats’ in the EU )
“We are not considering an EU-wide youth mobility scheme and there will be no return to freedom of movement,” they said.
(Of course we know that. However, just like the Tories, I do hope Labour also know that the EU will not concede to their, Labour’s , demands in any supposed ‘new’ trade deal they try to make with the EU just because Labour represents Britain/the UK).
“The prime minister – who, just like his Conservative predecessor, has committed to dramatically lowering immigration – will know the political risk in any move which could increase numbers coming to the UK”
( Indeed as , just like the Tories, Keir Starmer and Labour, need to appease the right wing media , also those who recently rioted in England as they are also against immigrants and also those often referred to as ‘Gammons’ within the UK who see all of the UK’s problems as being the fault of immigrants and the so called ‘Lefty woke’ who welcome those same immigrants to the UK . It appears that Keir Starmer, and his Labour government, intend to indulge these types of people and media via all of their discrimination, xenophobia and also very much their skewed logic).
“Labour has also previously insisted that restoring freedom of movement is a “red line” for negotiators which will not be crossed”
(Surely not a “red line” but more of a Tory ‘blue’ line as Brexit was instigated and implemented by a Tory government . However , just like the Tories, Labour know that in order to win power they have to appear to support and sustain this Tory policy, Brexit, for their UK)
(Also the UK media have , so far, managed to avoid mentioning Brexit as being a hugely negative policy for the UK both economically and also for us the people of the UK).
(Let’s see how some will ‘spin’ this Labour government’s efforts to negotiate a supposed ‘new Trade deal’ with the EU for the UK. Though , just like the Tories, Labour cares not a jot that Scotland voted against leaving the EU in 2016. However it also has to be said that , with many in Scotland voting to elect so many Labour MP’s in the recent GE , it then appears that some Scots also do not ‘care a jot’ about this either , as in us having to leave the EU all because we are part of the UK, and also the fact that Labour are endorsing and supporting Brexit- as it is either that or they , some Scots, are willing to either forgive Labour or forget Labour’s lies , U Turns etc made to Scotland both pre and post 2014).
Wha’s like us indeed !

Douglas Fraser, the BBC’s economy & Business Editor, brands The National’s output as propaganda on the BBC’s Media show.
He stated “It’s 10 years since the independence referendum and that anniversary is up next month. It’s not so clear that the big issues, like independence, have been as important to selling newspapers and indeed subscriptions for news publishers. One title with a strong propaganda approach to supporting independence, The National, a sister paper of The Herald based in Glasgow, makes some waves politically through it’s propaganda. But it doesn’t suggest there’s much to be gained commercially from taking sides in that debate. It’s in London I think where editors may think that there’s less interest to be found in Scotland with the SNP on the backfoot. They’re wrong of course”.
Where do we even start ?
I assume Douglas Fraser is aware that the majority of other newspapers that distribute within Scotland see it as a “big issue” to promote only the UK in their newspapers while attacking independence and any political parties supportive of it.
That he, Fraser, should have the audacity as one employed by the BBC, to label any other media as having a “strong propaganda approach” is then tempting (many) others to ridicule and also lambast him considering what we witness every day via their, BBC’s, TV, Radio and website’s pro UK and anti independence output pre and post 2014 that they, the BBC unleash here in Scotland.
The BBC are considered to be, or rather are renowned for being, an anti independence and pro the UK media outfit and that fact is reflected in much of their broadcasting and website contents. So Douglas Fraser is kidding no one, including himself, in pretending that there is no propaganda via his own employer.
Note that he, Fraser, mentions in his comment the sister paper of The National , as in The Herald, but he fails to note their, The Herald’s, particular allegiance to the UK and thus their anti independence “propaganda” that we read in their headlines and too within the content of their newspaper.
So in him omitting that fact about The Herald, then Douglas Fraser is himself participating in contributing his own brand of BBC propaganda in him (deliberately) neglecting to mention a relevant point he should have attributed to them.
(This is something the BBC are expert at. In them failing to note those who are opposed to independence and why. The reason being they support the UK remaining intact).
He states that “London Editors” are “less interested in Scotland with the SNP on the ‘backfoot'” but he fails to note that many of these same English publications that these “London Editors” work for also publish and distribute their supposed ‘Scottish’ editions here .
Where in these ‘Scottish’ editions they are very much only interested (obsessed) with Scotland staying within their UK and also do their best, like Douglas and his employer the BBC, to try and destroy the SNP in the hope that they can then save their UK.
Note how Douglas has only targeted a pro independence paper while giving a free rein to all of the publications who distribute their publications in Scotland who, as a media, only support the UK staying intact while simultanously being opposed to independence . (as does Douglas’s employer the BBC)
So they, as a media , only ever promote their viscous brand of pro UK propaganda and also their uber anti independence position and also their anti SNP propaganda.
Pretty much the same goes for Douglas’s employer the BBC who only promote pro UK propaganda while are active in their opposition to independence and also in their opposition to the SNP.
I suspect that Douglas Fraser in the above comment was only trolling us in declaring The National as a “propaganda” newspaper while ignoring both the Labour and Tory supporting newspapers who also , as a media, support the UK. (as does Douglas’s employer the BBC).
We will not take the bait but we can hardly let him off the hook with him uttering such a blatant “propaganda” statement that actually oozes with British Nationalist “propaganda” and exceptionalism that only the BBC , via an employee, could utter and care not of the subsequent ridicule heaped upon him that he, and his employer, knows will surely be unleashed.
Same old same old from the BBC in Scotland.
Like Labour it seems , via them the BBC, there will be no “Change”
