From the Insider on 16 August 2024:
A care home operator has been fined £500,000 for failings which led to a 54 year-old woman dying in a fire in Glasgow. HC-One, which ran Arcadia Gardens care home in the Bridgeton area of the city when the fire broke out, pled guilty to a breach of health and safety at work committed in March 2017, the Crown Office said.
From This is Money in August 2017:
Controversial businessman and Labour party donor Chai Patel has signed a deal to buy half of Bupa’s care homes to create Britain’s biggest operator. City sources said Patel’s company, HC-One, has agreed to pay up to £450 million for the 150-home portfolio. The deal will catapult HC-One from the third largest care home company in the country to the largest, potentially worth more than £1 billion.
On 20 March 2006 the Labour Party issued the full list of 12 lenders including:
Chai Patel – £1.5 million.
In October 2020, continuing Scottish Labour’s habit of supporting anyone at all if they think they can score points against the Scottish Government, Monica Lennon said:
The outbreak at Hatton Lea is extremely worrying and my thoughts are with the loved ones of those who have tragically died. It’s vital that the care home is given support to maintain safe staffing levels and that residents get the healthcare they need. Strong local partnership working is more important than ever. The well-being and safety of residents and staff is paramount, and I welcome HC-One’s proactive communication with local politicians.
So, a giant corporation accused of tax avoidance, paying poverty wages and with care homes where many have died in the pandemic, should be helped out with staffing by the taxpayer, and is praised by a supposedly leftist political party?
And, see that ‘HC-One’s proactive communication with local politicians?’
More like feeding Scottish Labour politicians with a narrative they know suits their agenda and which they hope might deflect criticism away from their overcrowding, understaffing, low wages and poor worker conditions onto the SNP.

It would appear Labour has learned very little from the Covid pandemic and the need for preparedness before a pandemic strikes. It seems the new Labour Chancellor may be about to cut funding to a vaccine facility and in England just as Mpox etc head down the tracks towards us.

I’ve no wish to “like” this article as I usually do, John, for obvious reasons but it really highlights how other parties are simply not held to the same account as the SG.
Our media are truly horrendous.
