Scotland being the sick man of europe was always a lie Scotland did bot have greater health problems than any other comparable places , you have to take into account Scotland had many coal mines , steel works and engineering plants building trains ships and other vehicles , smoking killed many , the UK government right until the very last minute refused to tell people that smoking killed them much earlier in life thsn if they did not smoke. For centuries people from little england came to Scotland for a health tonic the air was cleaner , excluding those industrialised areas but remember only a small part of Scotland was industrialised , so the lie of Scotland being the sick man of europe was invented , invented for a reason , invented by who ? Well little england of course , all part of the strong shoulders of the UK GB thecountry whatever description these scoundrels use.How do i know this ? well i lived in england most of my early life , popping back up to Scotland to see relatives once or twice a year , where did they live ? bonnie Dundee.

I do not agree with your assertion.
While only a relatively small area of Scotland was industrialised, that was where the great majority of the population lived. This meant that in these areas, in addition to the industrial pollution and bad working conditions, these areas were very densely populated and mainly housed in very poor quality housing which was damp and insanitary.
These conditions led to high rates of illness, large amounts of industrial injuries, poverty, malnutrition and early death.
I was born in a working class area of Glasgow prior to the Clean Air Acts. When I retired and was shopping around with my pension pot, I received a higher pension than was normal for that size of pension fund. The reason was because I had been born in Glasgow and the actuarial calculations indicated that I would draw the pension for only a few years.
So, the health data for parts of Scotland, were, indeed, amongst the worst in Europe. Other industrialised parts of Europe also had poor health outcomes.
The ‘Sick Man of Europe’ tag was one created by the nasty media and politicians as a term of contempt, implying that Scots were a lesser breed of people. It underpinned assertions that Scotland was too wee and no very good and fostered amongst many Scots a self-loathing.
With the NHS, improved housing higher wages (due to strong trade unions), better food, the health statistics for Scots improved markedly. However, the actions of the Tories has led to increasing poverty and worsening health data, but parts of England, Wales and Northern Ireland are also seeing worsening health data because of vile economic policies.

Thatcher. Secretly and illegally took all the Oil & Gas revenues. Cut the Block Grant and left Scotland in poverty. Kept it secret under the Official Secrets Act. The Barnett Formula racket.
Closed all the manufacturing facilities in Scotland. Unemployment in Scotland was 15%. Interest 17% and inflation 15%. Long term poverty in Scotland. Led to poor health and lack of prosperity.
Thatcher funded the crooked bankers and London S/E. They fund the Tory Party. People lost jobs and houses. Higher unemployment.
