New Ayr, Carrick and Cumnock Labour MP betrays all she claims to stand for and votes to keep the cruel two child benefit cap and her £91K job

Before the 2024 General Election in the local Ayrshire newspapers:

Elaine Stewart, Labour candidate said: “As someone who works daily with children and young people in some of the affected communities, I can assure you that reason I am standing is to ensure that the child poverty is high on the agenda on a daily basis.

“I run food banks and, to be perfectly honest, children and young people should not be eating from this form of support on a daily basis.

“Addressing child poverty in Scotland requires a sustained, collaborative effort across various sectors and levels of government, with active involvement from communities and families affected by poverty.

“If elected, I will ensure one of my missions is to fight hard to bring those statistics down.”

Tonight, shamefully, she voted with all but 7 English Labour MPs, to keep the two-child limit on benefits.

Why is this so important?

Local child poverty rates across the UK correlate very strongly with the percentage of families affected by the two-child benefit cap, research has found, indicating that the controversial policy is a key factor behind children growing up in deprivation.

The study, carried out by Loughborough University for the End Child Poverty Coalition, will heap pressure on Labour over the party’s refusal to abolish the cap, which limits universal credit and child tax credit to a family’s first two children, if they come into power.

Hypocrisy? Worse than that. Betrayal. Moral decay.

  1. They were always going to keep the two child cap. Treacherous labour, always say what you want to hear to get what they want then do the things you would never vote for. Party of the people my arse! Grifters and Conmen – the Snake Oil salesmen of Scottish politics.

    1. Absolutely Joe, so why did so many Scots vote for them? Are a whole tranche of our electorate that stupid? Yes I know, over 300 years of brainwashing by the British Establishment, led nowadays by the B.B.C, and supported by a mainly corrupt M.S.M. Is that all there is to it? Whatever it is, the Scottish cringe is once again well to the fore. Here’s hoping the next generation, as far as I am concerned, see sense.

      1. It is a bit weird imo. I’d say many people new to Scotland wo were conned by Labour into believing they’d get rid of the Tories by voting Labour, as if their votes counted at all. Though also, Labcons’ votes were not that much higher in Scotland than the SNP, which is interesting and of course though it should be much higher, 51% of people in Scotland want independence.

    2. With all due respect Joe, ” Grifters and Conmen – the Snake Oil salesmen of Scottish politics” is perhaps better expressed as the “Grifters and Conmen of UK politics which includes Sarwar, DRoss, Coal Scuttle et al…”

I think we’ve had quite enough of this UK political bullshit all the same….

  2. not to mention that she is also local councillor, Project Manager of The Zone initiative, Development Manager for Coalfield Regeneration all attracting good salaries (plus expenses I imagine). Interesting to see how that pans out with Labour Manifesto on banning MP’s from having second jobs!
