Factcheck – 60% more Scots children do well at end of Primary School than in England

I’ll keep this very simple.

Is one in four pupils failing better or worse than four in ten failing?

Sad to say, I know adults who’d get a migraine with that but we know don’t we?

One in four is 25% failing and four in ten is 40% failing.

Easy now isn’t it?

Where are 25% failing in basic reading, writing and maths by the age of 11? Scotland

In December 2023, BBC Scotland had all the opposition parties confused but angry with the SNP about this.

Where are 40% failing? England!

In the Times, yesterday, the new Labour UK Education minister promised to sort it out.

40% minus 25% is 15%.

15 is 60% of 25 so Scotland schools are 60% better, crudely speaking of course.

  1. W’Press no longer show which site I am reading at the top of an article, that’s a recent thing, and I don’t get notifications of new articles anymore, it’s definitely not as good as it used to be.
Thanks for all you do John here at TUS.

    1. Hetty, I read the blog on Word Press’s Jetpack reader, which shows the name of the site but it’s truncated. As for notifications, I too lost them but if you click on the tree dots at the top of the screen you can get the option to turn on (or off, but who would do that with John’s) notifications for the blog.
