There have been hints from Starmer that more power is going to be devolved to the English regions and to a more constructive relationship with the governments in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
if Starmer is serious about a substantial change involving improving infrastructure, housing and education, it is going to have to be done by empowerment at the local level.
And that entails working with the ‘nationalist’ SF and SDLP in Ireland and appointing someone of the status of Hilary Benn is an indicator of seriousness.
in Wales there are no Tory MPs, and the Senedd has always been Labour controlled, with a strong dose of Welshness. It has cooperated with PC.
The question is can Scottish Labour actually produce constructive ideas and work constructively with others in a respectful way. The talent pool is pretty shallow and they have produced few constructive ideas in 17 years. Their raison d’etre has been , ‘we should be in charge, because…. we should be in charge.’
