Police Scotland Alerts – Why is BBC Scotland not looking as Scotland’s drug deaths are fuelled by English gangs

By Professor John Robertson

From Police Scotland yesterday:

Three people have been arrested in connection with drug offences in Aberdeen.

Following a County Lines intelligence led operation, officers executed warrants at addresses on Esslemont Avenue and Granton Place, Aberdeen on Wednesday, 19 June, 2024.

Class A drugs with an estimated value of £35,000 and a four-figure sum of cash were recovered.

A 23-year-woman and a two men, aged 30 and 31, all from the London area were arrested and charged in connection with the recovery.  They are due to appear at Aberdeen Sheriff Court on Thursday, 20 June, 2024.  A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

Detective Constable Daniel Connelly said: “We are committed to tackling the supply of illegal substances which have a harmful impact on our communities. https://www.scotland.police.uk/what-s-happening/news/2024/june/three-people-arrested-following-drugs-recovery-in-aberdeen/

BBC Scotland are quick to report the latest Police Scotland figures on suspected drug deaths but seem averse to reporting a factor in these deaths – the supply of cheap drugs brought into Scotland’s towns and cities by County Lines gangs from English Cities, by gang members ready to employ levels of violence and the exploitation of children previously unseen in Scotland.

It’s more than 3 years since BBC Scotland’s only mention of County Lines in a headline.

It might be getting closer.

BBC Cumbria becomes the latest of BBC regions to report on the devastating plague of County Lines gangs spreading drug death, extreme violence, people trafficking and child abuse, across the UK and now from Manchester to small towns in Cumbria.

Imagine if these gangs were based in Scottish cities and crossing into England?

BBC Scotland’s last and only report on County Lines gangs in Scotland, estimated at 55 groups, from Dumfries to Dingwall, more than three years ago. the report is careful not to mention the word ‘England’ nor even name the all-English cities where the gangs are based.

Why might BBC Scotland, the Herald, the Scotsman and STV be so reluctant to tell us that English drug gangs are terrorising many Scottish towns? Might it look bad for the Union? Not do much broad shoulders as pockets full of guns and knives?

  1. The unionist media are not reporting county lines gangs because we’re BETTER TOGETHER. These gangs are ensuring that Scotland gets plenty of drugs because Scottish gangs are not genetically programmed to run drugs. These gangs facilitate enough drugs deaths to ensure that the unionist parties and media can attack the Scottish Government.

Since Labour in its plan to abolish the House of Lords is planning to appoint a large number of peers, perhaps some of the drugs barons ought to be considered.

  2. Above all else a headline on the BBC Scotland channel today perhaps gives a fascinating insight into their mindset when categorising Scotland’s Euro qualification after many years and performance/Exit as ”SCOTLAND’S CONTINUING DETERIORATION”. Doesn’t that tell us everything we need to know about our wonderful National Broadcaster’s attitude to the nation. Just in case they feel the message is not getting across and leaving no doubt Scotland is s**te and is getting worse. I can only assume they will be trying desperately to attach our footballs team’s apparent ‘failure’ to the Scottish Governments commitment and funding to sport in general.

  3. County Lines infiltrate Scotland from English cities but this is ignored by our “Scottish”media. Now that’s a huge surprise! 😏
