As BBC Scotland’s Campbell links Swinney to supposed ‘long waits’, the facts about NHS Scotland’s shorter waits

Today, BBC Scotland’s Glenn Campbell has a go at the incoming FM with: Big tensions remain in SNP as Swinney takes leadership and:

There are also big delivery challenges with long waits for many NHS patients, a sense of decline in some areas of education and major budget pressures to be addressed.

There is, of course, no context to the claims.

  1. You have to hand it to BBC Scotland for its efforts and for its speed of responsiveness to the needs of the Union!

Today on the BBC News website it has succeeded in getting the headline about the SNP with a ‘tensions remain’ theme in prominent places on both the main Scotland page and Scotland Politics page. For a time this morning the headline was in prime spot on both pages.

It sits above the article by Glenn Campbell which – given this makes no mention of the term ‘editorial’ or ‘comment’ in its labelling – is simply masquerading as news.

This is NOT subtle: it’s an attempt to influence rather than inform, to take up the task alongside Unionist opposition parties of working to counter the positive messaging from the SNP over the party coming together around its new leader.

    1. Do not overlook their tendency to “crowd out” what news their sponsors would prefer not be circulated…

  2. Might I ask how you know BBC Scotland’s ‘Shitehawk’ wrote this drivel, or is this another feature of the BBC’s ‘Furrner’ internet webview ? I did read the article earlier, noting it was unattributed, hence the question.

      1. Thanks for that clarification Stewart – With recent change, effectively the BBC can select what may and may not be seen of what circulates in the UK from the outside, now they may edit articles on the fly for the same purpose.
My point is what’s next ? Your news in Inverness finessed to report differently to what is read in Dumfries ?
