Updated – How the English cartunionists dehumanise Scots to make anything ‘just a joke’, even hanging and crucifixion

By Professor John Robertson

Peter Brookes in the Times, gleefully shared by the slimy be-wigged lard-bucket that is Andrew Neil, the above. Imagine doing that with the leaders of any other country?

Sadly, it’s not new.

In February 2024, again from Peter Brookes in the Times, a snide and offensive take on the SNP’s supposed troubles.

Brookes

Last year, we had:

Martin Rowson with another dim-witted stereotype of Scots to conceal the fact that the SNP had a substantive, serious, motion, on one of their only 3 days, based on years of consistent support for the human rights of the Palestinian people, hijacked by a bullied Labour Party speaker and his pro-Israel leader, to prevent them being embarrassed by many of their MPs voting for the SNP motion.

Rowson, 7 years ago:

Note the comments below Sturgeon.

Rowson

They’re all the same. Oh so liberal and witty with it, until it comes to us.

Peter Brookes in 2020.

Steve Bell in 2015.

Steve Bell in 2014.

Steve Bell in 2013.

Bell looking like me but twice the man

I emailed Steve Bell then to express my disappointment after years of enjoying his work.

He replied ‘Nationalist dupe.’

I wrote ‘Bellend.’

Two other Times thicko cartoons by Dave Brown that @alanferrier posted:

Maybe Scottish cartoonists are bit better. What about that guy at the Herald?

The Herald’s Steven Camley’s interpretation of the SNP leader’s performance in the House of Commons on Wednesday.

Like the English cartoonists, he attempts to conceal the fact that the SNP had a substantive, serious, motion, on one of their only 3 days, based on years of consistent support for the human rights of the Palestinian people, hijacked by a bullied Labour Party speaker and his pro-Israel leader, to prevent them being embarrassed by many of their MPs voting for the SNP motion.

In November 2022, I wrote:

I’ve always thought that Camley’s cartoons were a bit crap but this one stinks of political bias.

The idea that Scotland’s waiting times figures are being ‘massaged’ comes from the opposition parties. Here are the facts again:

From Public Health Scotland today, for September 2022:

69% of attendances at A&E services were seen and resulted in a subsequent admission, transfer or discharge within 4 hours.

https://www.publichealthscotland.scot/publications/ae-activity-and-waiting-times/ae-activity-and-waiting-times-month-ending-30-september-2022

For the same month in England, the figure was 56.9%.

https://www.england.nhs.uk/statistics/statistical-work-areas/ae-waiting-times-and-activity/ae-attendances-and-emergency-admissions-2022-23

NHS Scotland has thus performed 21.3% better.

Remember, it’s not just 21.3%. That means thousands more seen within 4 hours in Scotland than if they’d been treated in England and hundreds of thousands more waiting more than 4 hours in England than if they’d been treated in Scotland.

In Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust, a staggering only 31.8% were seen in 4 hours. The areas has 3 Labour and 1 Con MP (IDS).

Scotland’s worst performing board, Lanarkshire, saw 56.7% in 4 hours.

Has Camley improved? Still the same crap cartunionist.

Camley

  1. Should he not do one of Starmer, Cameron and Sunak standing with Netanyahu all wearing swastika armbands heiling the “Nazi” IDF and their troops in Westminster.

These cartoons are dangerously racist…..and badly offensive…….it surely means that the englander establishment would like to see ALL Scottish voters who support Independence hanged…….but then Scotland seems to be the only country in world that it is deemed acceptable to be racist to.

If ever there was proof it was time to get out of this abhorrent non union this surely has to be a strong contender!!!

  2. Yep very disturbing to look at those. The hatred and racism towards Scotland is quite something, and very very sinister indeed. I’m afraid my Guardian reading pals in England will most likely just laugh, they love taking the p**s out of Scotland and the SNP, it’s not uncommon and I guess nothing new, but in 2024 and with all of the othering going on in the world, it’s really dangerous.
    Despicable.

  3. “Chippy Scots” would be the response to any criticism, “it’s just a bit of fun, it’s free speech after all”…

Brookes interpretation misses a perspective he would not consider as he’s not aware of the relentless tripe Scots are bombarded by from ‘our’ national media.

You only need observe Sarwar, Baillie, Gump or Kerr perform in Holyrood to realise it’s all just a fully paid game to them before a captive audience when creative theatre groups struggle to make a living and gain audiences.

I’m appalled by Brookes’ cartoon for reasons he could never understand – A reminder of fit-ups by remnants of an Empire which has no right to persist in the present day but forever lingers like bad smells, ‘Eau de Forres Gump’ by Rishi for a start…

  4. Only The English have a sense of humour – not the Scots or the French or the Germans .

    Proof ?

England shot itself ( and us ) in the foot by voting for Brexit ! What a Larf !

As an encore , England voted in Boris Johnson ! Wasn’t he a card ?

    1. The “card”that didn’t take his ID Card to vote yesterday and got turned away then went back home to get it……it was his policy for ID proof to vote!!! These are the people telling Scotland that we aren’t clever enough to run our own country……you couldn’t make it up!!!

  5. It’s time to employ someone with some artistic skills to caricature Anus, Belly and Dross (not to mention Ach).

Mind you, aren’t they merely caricatures of politicians, anyway?

  6. Political cartoons are often very offensive! It’s just unfortunate that our offensive cartoons are not widely distributed in England and I’m sure they would be offended – just not cricket old boy, what!

  9. I am sure in their own way the Cartoonists think they are being “funny” and oh so slightly topical.

However, and sadly, they are just supplying the trash for the Heralds and Times main audience otherwise they would not be paid.

Thankfully, that audience, especially in the Heralds case, is diminishing fast and hopefully their sponsors will give it up as just another failed propaganda regional title that is draining funds and will not really be missed. I mean we still have BBC Scotland. to fall back on! 🙂

  10. O/T From the House of Commons on Thursday 2 May:

Jamie Stone (Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross) (LD)’: As a founding member of the Scottish constitutional convention, and the only Member of the present Commons whose signature is on SCOTLAND’S CLAIM OF RIGHT, I know one or two things about devolution.

‘Indeed, it will very shortly be the 25th anniversary of the first sitting of the Scottish Parliament. I politely ask whether we might have a debate on how Scottish devolution came into being, the ideals that lay behind it, and HOW THE PRESENT SCOTTISH GOVERNMENT ARE UNDERMINING THOSE FIRST IDEALS.’ (My emphasis)

Penny Mordaunt, Leader of the House:’ I thank the hon. Gentleman for that very good suggestion, and I am sure that such a debate would be well attended. Having headed up UK-wide organisations, particularly in healthcare, I know that one strength of having different systems of governance to reflect different parts of the UK is that they work together and learn from each other—HOW OUR FOUR CHIEF MEDICAL OFFICERS WORK TOGETHER, for example.

(Does the World Health Organisation not have national public health professionals from across the globe working collaboratively and learning from each other?)

Ms Mordaunt continued: ‘Devolution was envisaged as four nations working together for the common good of their citizens, but we know that is not the SNP’s interpretation of that opportunity. That would be a good debate and I encourage him to apply for it —and if he does, I will attend.’

    Source: https://hansard.parliament.uk/Commons/2024-05-02/debates/315A321A-097F-4B07-98C4-53E53B9A679F/BusinessOfTheHouse

So a ‘claim of right’ that it’s not legitimate to seek to exercise apparently, according to Jamie Stone MP?

To Ms Mordaunt’s example of CMOs working and learning together, this from the Northern Ireland health department’s website dated 7 April 2020: ‘Ministers for Health agree Memorandum of Understanding between Irish Government and Northern Ireland Executive’ – ‘The document, which can be found on the Department’s website, focuses on facilitating greater co-operation on areas such as: public health messaging, research, programmes of behavioural change, ethics, evidence base/ modelling, and public health and non-pharmaceutical measures. Other areas will be considered, such as procurement, where this is of mutual benefit.

‘It has been agreed by Minister for Health Simon Harris TD and Minister for Health Robin Swann MLA and the two Chief Medical Officers Dr Tony Holohan and Dr Michael McBride. The document has the support of the NI Executive and the Irish Government.’

The then Northern Ireland health minister Robin Swann MLA is quoted: “I want to acknowledge the ongoing collaborative work between my Department, the Public Health Agency and Health and Social Care Board and their counterparts in the Republic of Ireland. This has been the case from day one and is A REFLECTION OF THE LONG STANDING COOPERATION AND RELATIONSHIPS BUILT UP OVER MANY YEARS. We face a common challenge, a challenge that will test us as never before. We will continue to do everything possible to work together for the best possible outcome.”

Would the government of England reject such co-operation with Scotland after the Union is dissolved? Really? Ms Mordaunt insults voters intelligence – once again!

  11. it just shows how the unionist Gov has brought down the Scottish FM. The cartoonists are not satirists but agents of the corrupt British Gov. It shows the MSM up for what it is agents of the Crown. MSM owned by non Dom tax evaders. Criminals who should be in jail. The Press losing readership. Comical leading to their own demise.

The Tories giving bungs to NI for support in Westminster will be gone. Ireland can reunite. Scotland can be Independent. The Orange Lodge, unequal, unfair, misogynist, bigoted, racist and blackballing people. Secret society. Should be disbanded in public society. DUP voted out.

  12. Misfired. The £Billions wasted on Trident and redundant weaponry. That is the real scandal. Instead of cutting poverty. Austerity killiing people. Scotland wealth taken and misused. Wasted.
