First poll since SNP/Green split suggests first tentative signs of SNP recovery

Talking-up Scotland backs John Swinney for SNP leader – the experience and the ability to ‘steady the ship’, does not have unacceptably right-wing views and can easily handle the wee boys leading the other parties.

By Professor John Robertson

A YouGov poll of 1 034, 16+, with fieldwork on 26-29 April, has:

For Westminster, Labour up 1 at 34%, from 33 in March; SNP up 2 from 31 to 33 and the Greens down one from 5 to 4.

For Holyrood Constituency Vote, Labour stalled at 32; SNP up 2 from 31 to 33 and Greens down 1 from 5 to 4.

For the regional/list vote, Labour stalled on 24; SNP up 1 from 22 to 23 and Greens down from 4 to 3.

On whether the SNP was right to end the power sharing with the Greens:

37% thought ‘Should have’, 27 thought ‘Should not have’ and 43 thought ‘Don’t know’

On whether the Scottish Parliament should vote to keep or remove Humza Yousaf:

24% thought ‘keep’, 55 thought ‘remove’ and 21 thought ‘Don’t know’

  1. I agree with you…..John Swinney it has to be………a safe seasoned pair of hands….an old school SNP politician……takes no nonsense talks no nonsense!!!

  2. YouGov found 20% of under 25s support the Greens and that there was a clear lead for independence among under 50s. The positions people take on Scottish politics are largely linked to their age.

  3. Less people might support the Greens now. Swinney was not great the last time. Stood down. Someone new would be better.

70%+ support Holyrood. Support increasing for Independence.

  4. Thats three SNP leaders attacked and taken out by the english supporting cabal in the space of four years i always thought the green party in Scotland would become a problem for Scottish independence because sooner or later there would be a minority issue that they wanted legislated that would just be a step too far for the many many older voters in Scotland and so it has come to pass , we have neverbeen told outright why the green party wanted four weeks to discuss amongst themselves whether or not they should continue a coalition with SNP but i am pretty sure it was something to do with an issue SNP would not support , furthermore i would say that it was better the SNP say no just go than wait four weeks to then be told the greens were leaving or they would only stay if SNP agreed to change their mind and support an issue they had previously said they would not support.Once you allow yourself to be held to ransom and you decide to do something you dont think you should do , you are forever at their mercy .And so we now find SNP a minority government , thats okay just manage government without expecting much support for changes you want to make for the time being then at the next election people will respect you and vote for you.
