If the Scottish Greens decide to become a Thorn in the SNP’s side then it will not end well for them

End of the SNP agreement with the Scottish Green party….

Cue Mr Harvie & Ms Slater …..when chased down by the media for their reactions.

Mr Harvie was asked “whether the Scottish Greens would be as co-operative with the government over things like the budget, he replied: “Do you think the current government will still be in place for the next budget?”….

Ms Slater “described the ending of the Bute House agreement as an “act of political cowardice by the SNP” and accused the party of “selling out future generations”.

The media’s reaction….glee.…the SNP voters reaction could be upon hearing both of their responses to the hostile media, now be one where they, as voters, then decide to not give the Green party their second vote in any Scottish elections for Holyrood or Scottish councils….especially if they, the Scottish Greens, decide to be yet another hostile opposition force within the Scottish parliament against the SNP….I mean fair’s fair.

After all as Mr Harvie decided to be snide and insinuate that the SNP, may “not be the government in place come the next Scottish government budget” and Ms Slater portrayed the SNP as cowards”……they surely cannot assume that just because they, the Scottish Greens, support independence that will then protect them and help them get votes in subsequent elections from those of us who support and vote for the SNP…….. not forgetting that the Scottish Greens, expected the SNP to be ultra patient and await their decision only after they, the Greens, had a General meeting to decide whether they, as a party, would continue to sustain this agreement with the SNP…..I mean the Scottish Greens had not even announced the date of the meeting but the media had been told “it will happen some four weeks after members have been emailed to inform them of it”….and this would be happening amidst an ongoing speculation by the media and opposition parties to include assumptions, inferences and too a portrayal of this situation being chaotic and unstable by both that same hostile media and an even more hostile combined political opposition……..

Funnily enough Mr Harvie was quoted as saying that he would resign as leader if his party members decided to not continue with this agreement with the SNP….so obviously he thought it was acceptable to declare that he would relinquish his leadership of the Scottish Green party upon this matter….but if the FM decides to end the agreement with Mr Harvie’s party it is then somehow, that is , to Mr Harvie, be seen as a a totally unacceptable decision/position to make and take…..so he, Mr Harvie, could ‘run away’ from the Greens if they wanted out of this agreement but the SNP must not also have that option (though they, the SNP, did not ‘run away’ but they instead took a decisive action based on being expected to await…too long….upon what ultimately the Scottish Greens decided to do upon this matter)……that sounds fair….NOT.

Being in some form of coalition or formal agreement should surely mean that compromises and concessions must be made…..to stamp one’s feet and have a major strop when you think you, as the smaller party in that agreement, must always get your own way via your policies and initiatives being implemented and surviving is rather naïve and a tad selfish…..and not an agreement but instead quite controlling as a behaviour.

Plus TBH if anyone knows……. it is the Scottish Green party that know fine well….. the indisputable fact that the SNP, as Scottish government , do not govern an independent country….and alas that results in circumstances which restricts and limits how much they the Scottish government can do and intend to do….what with the limited powers and too the limited financial resources available to them as a devolved government of a country…..while simultanously being undermined, dictated to , overly criticised, underfunded and (over) ruled by a UK government…..plus they, the SNP, are also attacked by both a hostile uber critical pro UK media and too the various hostile uber critical pro UK political branch offices masquerading under the disguise of being ‘Scottish’ political parties and thus supposedly distinct from their respective HQ’s…..however whenever it is a GE that then exposes that not to be the case at all (as in them being distinct from their HQ’s)….as if you elect an MP in a UK GE via a pro UK party then he will be one who sits in the HOC and forms part of the party numbers as either the party that is elected as the UK government or the official opposition………… or in the Lib Dems case the fourth party in the HOC.

Perhaps this agreement ending with the Scottish Greens will now result in more support for the SNP……and if the Scottish Greens decide to become a Thorn in their, the SNP’s, side then alas it will I suspect not end well for them, the Scottish Greens, at the ballot box……they may be feeling hard done by just now but going forward I would say they need to be canny as to what they say to the media if they wish SNP voters to support them in future elections…..the ball is in their court on that !

  1. Agreed Prof. Here endeth the permanent ‘gun held at the heid’ of the SNP Government, and with it ends the disproportionate influence on that government.

  2. This might show us if the Greens are REALLY for independence or if independence was just a stepping stone to power for them. Their actions from now on will be telling.

    1. i agree with you kelticgirl i always disliked the greens saying they were in favour of scottish independence but if labour or tory of lib dem offered them more than SNP they would jump ship.Lets face it , there has been nothing but controversy since SNP teamed up with the greens , perhaps some calm now.

  3. So much for their supposed support for Independence? Whilst I would support many Green policies, maybe some of them should have been delayed until after independence?

  4. So the greens are going to back the vote of no confidence in our first minister. That means the greens will be siding with the Tories, if they do they will be quite rightly hammered at the next election, a dangerous game to be on the side of the party that votes Scotland down at every turn. It always sat uneasy with me giving the greens a little power, they have been nothing but divisive for the SNP. Right let’s get back to an honest united Independence vote……mine is for the SNP, hope everyone agrees!!!

  5. I’ve a lot of time for the Greens’ policies, but bluntly they over-played their political hand despite knowing the bottleneck is in London.

Once bruised egos have recovered, the Greens will realise an independent Scotland is the only place where progressive green policies may grow, as it cannot be done under London’s ‘ crash and burn ‘ political rule.

Holyrood is designed to promote coalitions, be that formal as in the BHA or on an ad-hoc basis being the only distinction – The BHA got some difficult legislation through against conspiring unionists, which annoyed the hell out of AJ, hence his big stick response – However, that only succeeded in accelerating indy support, which is now showing an increasing majority.

Patience is now required not petulance.

    1. Indeed Bob.

And as per much of this event is now being lost in translation as promoted by the usual suspects from both media and opposition parties.

Watching SKY News paper review last night and this situation was discussed via The Guardian newspaper having it on their front page as a main headline (Labour newspaper).

The rubbish being spoken was nothing short of wishful thinking, where one reviewer noted that according to him support for independence had declined though to verify this statement he failed to back up his assertion with stats, he also noted the Police investigation and that he thought Humza had walked into a trap as now a VONC had been called (which in reality was DRoss doing what he, as a “lightweight” Tory always does, that is in him being opportunistic…..as if you cannot win fairly then try and gain an advantage via a dirty trick), he also said it was no wonder that Labour were expected to make huge gains in Scotland……the other reviewer was as bad…….as was the presenter……political spin and propaganda were alive and kicking.

There was no context as to the Scottish Greens intending to have a meeting to end this agreement via a timescale that was still unclear , but in an election year, it was too long and unreasonable to expect the SNP to pander to their, Scottish Greens, “petulant” antics……

In much of the media and rogue news media’s eyes they see this as the end of Humza’s leadership…..and too they hope the SNP and thus they hope independence as well.

I do hope most of the Scottish electorate see it for what it is….via the context of the Scottish Greens involvement in this and too the media’s very poor yet very expected hysterical and predictable premature triumphalist reaction….which some opposition parties are currently hoping to capitalise upon…….as per.

      Have a nice day

      🙂

      1. Aye, they’re all at it in chorus, and not in the least surprised to see the ever awful Kathryn Samson join in for C4 https://www.channel4.com/news/scotland-politics-snp-leader-future-in-doubt-after-opposition-move spouting the most contrived tripe, presumably aimed at English viewers who know no different – A nice little cameo of James Cook holding her mic so she could use both hands….sweet… – His particular article ” Can Humza Yousaf survive as Scotland’s first minister? ” has been on the UK main page since before dawn “, which I now see has been joined by an earlier piece from Craig Williams ” Scottish Greens will vote to oust first minister ” in prime spot… On the UK page ???

I too noted the blanking of the threat from the Greens as cause for the decision, but it makes a change from other ferry-stories etc..

        1. Aye Bob….from a viewers perspective it looks as if some within the media are relishing this situation way too much…..but then that is, as a position, we see too often taken by the media…..I’m sure Ferries will make a comeback once this all blows over…..meanwhile the media will continue to try to influence public opinion in Scotland as opposed to reflecting it…or indeed ever respecting it……they, the media, serve only those still willing to be subservient to a corrupt UK political system while openly disrespecting, ignoring and working against those of us supportive of independence…..

The media are but the medium (vehicle) that allows the pro UK political parties to drive home their political message and support for their UK to Scottish voters…..that same media also refuses to afford the same courtesy to the SNP and independence……that’s the bottom line……always has been and always will be…..the same media that promoted The Vow in 2014 and also promoted Project Fear…..in Scotland’s politics that, it appears, is their job…..hence why we do not trust them as ‘news’ providers who cover political stories…..they are way too compromised by their UK uber alles firm position…..we may slate opposition parties but who is it that lies behind the promotion of propaganda and lies that they, as opposition parties , promote and spin……yep the media.

Hence why my resolve still remains strong in my support for the SNP….and too independence……to not do so then allows the Pro UK biased media to win their ongoing battle against independence ever happening for Scotland….and why would anyone want that on their conscience.

  6. I voted Green with my list vote at the last election and the NE got a Green list MSP, Maggie Chapman, it was 1 less Unionist MSP, I’ll probably still give the Greens my list vote but it’s not a given.

  7. The Greens and Tories will be out on their ear. Punished by the electorate. The Tories are toast. The Greens get the Independence support vote. There will be a higher turnout for SNP/Independence if there is any threat to Holyrood. 70%+ support.

  8. I have to disagree with the above comments. As a long time member of the SNP (76yo) I believe this is a retrograde step and will ultimately alienate many younger voters. With both the Tories and Labour backtracking on their commitment to combat climate change the coalition was seen at least by many teens as a beacon of hope for their future. I’m sure they see this as a betrayal and view the SNP as just another political party giving lip service to serious climate action that everyone now recognises is a distinct danger to us all and our livelihoods.

That aside and from a political standpoint alone I am not confident the FM will survive this next week. IMO he has exposed himself to the now very serious threat some in the SNP might just see this as an opportunity to ditch him. Sorry.
