Something else BBC Scotland fed by the Scotsman were trying to hide from you today

By Professor John Robertson

On the Scotsman’s front page and repeatedly on BBC Scotland broadcasts, the story that the Scottish Government ‘plans‘ to ‘scrap’, ‘ditch’ and ‘drop’ one climate change target is presented as humiliation and embarrassment.

Way down the page, we read something very important:

Green MSP Ross Greer said it was “a difficult day for the planet and Scotland”.

He also argued that the Scottish Government’s targets had been made on the assumption of a cooperative UK Government.

Mr Greer told BBC Scotland news that previous governments had not taken enough climate action and his party had “massively escalated” climate action since joining government.

Nowhere reported, in the extended BBC report:

Why did the Scottish media not cover the above?

I think we know why.

  1. They’re even running the story on Classic effing FM. The relentless narrative of ‘Scotland is sh#t so you might as well forget about Independence ‘ really does grind you down. Which is the aim is, of course. We are now in a gaslighting, abusive relationship with the British state.

    1. Yep and the bizarre irony is, Scotland is ‘sh*t’ within the so called UK and it’s been shackled to Engerland for far far longer than having a few powers to steer the ship away from thr freakin rocks.

Need some posters saying Scotland you are cr*p but ever ask why saying as you have been in a ‘union’ with England for a long long time and you can tinker around the edges to keep your heads above water but that’s all you are getting, ha ha ha lolz!

Oh and there’s a demo against the (SNP) ScotGov next week at Bute house, re their disastrous terrible climate target being scrapped.

I won’t be going, but any info to send this organisation re details of the matter and how EngGov has scuppered and sabotaged Scotland’s renewables etc would be good so I can send to this lot. Again they should protest outside the English parliament, watch for the BritNat ‘media’ cameras and reporters chomping at the bit about this…

  2. Ah, another load of Bol’s from the Herald…

Was that the purpose behind the Tories in Westminster scuppering climate change commitments, so their Scottish contingent could accuse the SNP of being ” humiliated ” ? - If the original target of 75% is no longer achievable within the next 6 years, is it not prudent to recognise that reality ? Or should SG talk “sunny uplands” a la Tory ?

It’s taken me 7 years to get to an 80% reduction in gas and thereby emissions, and I don’t feel in the slightest humiliated… There again, I’m not in the slightest Tory…

  3. While Scotland missed their 2021 target by 0.9%, it was better at reducing emissions than the rest of the UK.

    Under ‘Notes to Editors’

    https://www.theccc.org.uk/2024/03/20/scotlands-2030-climate-goals-are-no-longer-credible/

“Emissions were 41.6 MtCO2e in 2021, based on the 1990-2021 inventory.

This is a 2.4% increase since 2020 but remains 10.0% below pre-pandemic levels in 2019.

    (there was a covid effect?)

Emissions in 2021 were 49.2% lower than levels in 1990.

    (their target was 51.1%)

This represents a higher reduction in emissions compared to the UK, where 2021 emissions were 47.2% below 1990 levels.”
