24 hours after Police Scotland reveal a massive drop in Hate Crime reporting, BBC Scotland repeat the Tory myth unchallenged

By Professor John Robertson

BBC Scotland this morning platforming the Scottish Conservatives twice and repeating the claim that the new Hate Crime law is overwhelming police staff.

The above comes 24 hours after Police Scotland posted this:

https://www.scotland.police.uk/what-s-happening/news/2024/april/weekly-hate-crime-and-incident-report-1/

See that last line? Could that be news? To mention it alongside the Tory claim, might that be the kind of balance they love to claim they offer?

Now I know the BBC Scotland staff saw the previous post last week, suggesting 7 152 reports, because they covered it at length.

Will, they now claim they missed yesterday’s post from Police Scotland? Staffing shortage at Pacific Quay?

Stop it! My ribs hurt.

  1. Another one to be added to BBC’s clarifications and corrections growing list of errors…….surely any well functioning and diligent organisation who discovered that some of it’s sources of information were proven to be consistently unreliable and also were one’s whose true intentions were ulterior to that of promoting truth and facts…..would then, as an organisation, stop their reliance upon the relating of information from that same source ?……

However with the BBC here we do not have a well functioning , diligent or indeed a broadcaster who seeks to promote truth or facts…..in fact they, as a broadcaster, seem to rely mostly upon opposition parties and individuals hostile to the Scottish government for a disproportionate amount of the supposed ‘news’ where we are……as news that they, the BBC, seem far too reliant upon to relate to their (few) viewers…….

Indeed those that they, the BBC, give a voice to……we know (by who they are) are the ones who are only too willing to contribute to the news where we supposedly are……. and tis obvious from what they say that they are communicating what is clearly a very much partisan opinion and also misinformation with the goal being to try and create political damage to the Scottish government & the SNP as a party……..and the BBC here provides them with that public platform….time and time again.

If the BBC are not up to the job , which based on your article (and via other examples too) seems to be the case, then they really should be considered ,as a trusted source of news, very much ones to be bypassed by the public…..though we all know that the ‘British’ part in their corporation’s name compromises them greatly in that is prevents them from being fair, honest, reliable, balanced and truthful when it is anything connected to either the SNP or independence for Scotland…..which is why they should be called out every single time that they miscommunicate news but actually ultimately they really should be avoided as a news channel as they are far too untrustworthy and biased towards opposition parties to the SNP…..BBC Reporting Scotland & BBC GMS Radio programmes are our version of GB News TV and Radio programmes….LOL

  2. It is the Tory party who were pushing opposition to the Bill, and BBC Scotland providing the free amplification from the beginning…

IIRC all but one Tory voted against the Bill in Holyrood which passed by majority, but it was then when their campaign went up a gear and the ridiculously obvious 3,000 complaints in a week landed, which HMS James Cook dutifully reported.

What this demonstrates is that Pacific Quay not only can but provably do ignore even what is inconveniently already in the public domain – The FM mentioned the latest police figures in every interview where this faux “public concern” has been raised, including the BBC….

Later clarifications and apologies simply don’t cut it any more…

Indeed…but that is what we are seeing and thus the original false version is the one their (small) audience will believe to be factual….and will then perhaps communicate to others.

How many people will access the BBC website via their Clarifications & corrections’ section ?………and that is what the BBC here assume to be the case…..as in very few will make any effort or even be aware it exists…..but it exists so that the BBC can say that they corrected misinformation that was broadcast via their various channels…..

Here’s an idea…….. how about them, the BBC, checking the facts before broadcasting it on their news channels…..I’m no expert but seems like a good way to avoid fake news…..to not do so makes them, the BBC, seem ……….complicit…..LOL

  3. Having watched RS ( I know) but its always good to hear and see what the enemy say I have yet to hear a good story about Scotland coming out of them.

I posted about Bowie before and I don’t see anything about him on BBC Scotland so if readers want to know more her it is.

According to him the wording was wrong but to me he is just a lying Tory like the rest of them.
